There is one important question we need to ask ourselves before creating a profile and flooding the online world with our life, "what is my purpose for using social media?" Your strategy develops from there.
The "strategy" is where I think things begin to change, and some become less social.
Although your purpose may be to promote your business, it is just as important to show our "human" side as well.
By engaging your followers, you are telling them they are important, and you care.
We hear that we should be doing this and don't do that. Post at this time and avoid that time.
Don't over post, be too random, and overuse #hashtags or you'll annoy followers and possibly lose them.
Many of the pictures we see tend to be touched-up.
People have to get the perfect pose either alone or with a particular item that contributes to the story they want to tell.
Followers follow to be followed back, and when you don't, they unfollow.
Apps have been created to tell us who has looked at our profile, and some get labeled a stalker (some probably are).
The comment section becomes a battleground for those that disagree or have a burning need for attention.
What we post online is out there for the world to see. Isn't that the point? Have we created another mask for people to hide behind? Are you truly bringing your authentic self to your "strategy and posts? If we took away the device would you be the person the person you claim to be online?
My perception of social media is to be social, authentic, and post things that truly speak to the real Chris. I am a culmination of all my life experiences and wildly eclectic. Not what I want people to think. I don't want to pay for likes, followers, and clicks.
I want fans to follow because they genuinely care about what I have to post. Don't you?
