"Ben Hur" In Theaters Labor Day Weekend Phila & Bucks Co Preview Here

The weather on the east coast is questionable .There is a tropical storm Hermine brewing on the coast of Florida . The tropical storm may turn into a Hurricane traveling up the east coast This may cause a very rainy weekend all up and down the Northeastern coast of the USA .  It may or not interfere with picnic and outdoor plans .

Thinking positive you can always go to the movies . Those of you who read my blogs know this is one of my favorite pastimes rain or shine .  I was reading Beth Atalay  post where she talks about positive thinking You should read it .

"Ben Hur " which I had planned to thoroughly dislike was a good movie .  I would not say it compared to the 1959 spectacular movie with Charlton Heston . It was different . It took me by surprise .  The story took on a little bit of a different color and not done as lavishly . The story was good and I did enjoy it . It even brought a tear to my eyes .  So if you are looking for indoor entertainment .

"Ben Hur"  is definitely  worth the price of admission .  I did not see it in 3D .

The 1959 Ben Hur version is on my top 10 lists of best movies ever made

You are the only one I know who liked it.  There is a big brouhaha calling it a flop in the LA Studio world, because this movie will not make back the $100 million it spent.  When you compare it with the $15 million  budget of the 1959 film with Charlton Heston that became a classic nominated for 12 academy awards and getting 11. In 1959, when movies where much ccheeper it made $73 million as opposed to the $42.5 million the new vesion made.  To this date the old version made almost 2 billion dollars..

By the way, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Heston in the elevator of the building we worked on.  He was gracious and a gentleman.  A

 Ron and Alexandra Seigel  Ben Hur  & Charlton Heston  favorite actor one of my all time favorite movies This movie does not in anyway compare or even come close to one of the best movie ever made .   Do not take me wrong and I did say that .  My kids laugh at me as I watch it every-time is it on  and know it line for line ....  How lucky are you to have met him in an elevator I envy you ... I love him in every movie he made ---well almost every

Getting back to the remake ..not an Oscar winner and will never be but was not as bad as I expected . I did enjoy the entertainment .... would I pick it over my all time favorite masterpiece 1959 version  NO WAY  NOT EVEN CLOSE   William Wilder's  was a true piece of art --click the link I put in

Hi Hannah... I'm still debating on whether or not to see this movie. Glad to hear you liked it. Here in Charlotte we'll probably have rain tomorrow, but the weekend should be clear. I am happy I'm not on the NC coast line, however.

Hi Nina  - Tomorrow is suppose to be a beautiiful day here .The rest of the weekend is questionable . I was prepared to dislike this movie just like his other remake of the 10 commandments . I was surprised . As I said not an Oscar winner like the original and could never compare . It was worth the price of my movie ticket .

John Pusa  Ben Hur is one of my favorite movies .This movie is not as nearly as good as the 1959 version but I did enjoy it

George Souto  I was prepared to despise this movie .Much to my surprise I was glad I took the time to see it .  Did I like it as much as the lavish masterpiece with Charlton Heston ? Certainly not . I did however enjoy the story which did have a slightly different take .

James Dray  we must get you to the new modern movie theaters .Do you have them in your area ? The ones with reclining seats  you can even partake in alcoholic refreshments ... I do not ..some of these theaters even serve dinner .

The movie hasn't done well here and only has one late showing in one theater now and it is almost too late for me to stay up that late. I guess I will catch it on DVD.

I thought the previews of Ben Hurr looked interesting and your review convinces me I need to see it too!

I hope the storm doesn't create a lot of havoc and damage. Staying indoors and in a safe location watching a good movie or reading books is a great idea!

I never thought is a million years that they would ever do a remake of Ben Hurr, but the did and that's because Hollywood has ran out of new stories and it's easier to do a remake.

That being said it sounds like a good remake
