Each and every one of us has dreams of what we want and needs that we need to fullfill. These are different for everyone and we tend to take different paths to reach them. Quite often those dreams are intricatly tied into the work we choose to do. Have you ever asked yourself, why are you doing what you are doing? Most people dont have a clue, they are just going with the flow, trying to get from one day to the next.  Motivational speakers are effective for at least a moment because they say what everone wants to hear. There is a way to better yourself, to obtain your dreams, to live the life you want. A great video, talk, or book can convince you that you should be acting and thinking a certain way. For good or for bad the people and events that interject into your daily life are even more powerful and sustaining.

I am without a doubt a work a holic. Throughout my life I have often had multiple jobs at any one time as if I just had to figure out a way to do it all in the time that I had. I love being a real estate agent. It is constantly active and changing, I love solving problems and inspiring dreams. I get to touch the lives of so many people in a positive way, weather being a client with a need or an associate with a question, it is good for my own self esteem. I get far more out of it than I put in. If you won the lottery tomorrow would you go on working, I without a doubt would. It is tied in to my self worth, my solcialization, my self reflection, my goals, and my needs.

LIVE LIFE ON YOUR TERMS

One of the worst things in life would be a regret that you’ve spent your life pursuing what someone said you should want, instead of what you really wanted all along. What do you want?  Maybe the most important thing to you is learning, or creating, or giving. Maybe it's how many people's lives you can influence. Maybe it's how deeply you can influence just a few people's lives.

What do you want out of life?

Figure it out, make a plan and go pursue it!

Rain, great words of wisdom. What provoked this post today?

I absolutely LOVE my work/life and in reading what you wrote about always having multiple jobs, geesh, that sounds like me! My husband is a 2nd gen workaholic and he has taken a big step back from that. I find myself now working more than him! But, vacations are of the utmost of importance and too many haven't happened around him, so now I say, Go Play!! and we've taken more time off together and separately as a result this year. It's been my best year, too in 10+ years of doing real estate in my truly wonderful community, where I live, Fishhawk Lake.

I DO talk about a book occasionally, but doing what you love and knowing that if you get paid for it, it's an extra benefit is something I find fits me.It's called Do What You Love The Money Will Follow. I've got an artistic mentality so anytime money was coming in, it was a GodSend! And never taken for granted.

Rain, this is a great post.  I'm in a bit of the same boat as Corinne.  I can't say that I love what I do, but I don't hate it either.  The beauty of real estate though is that there are so many opportunities to make some changes while not leaving the business.  Fortunately for me I think I've figured it out, I have a plan, and I'm about to pursue it...just like you suggested.

A very insightful and important point you make.  I think I learned this a bit late in life.

Great advice. I am lucky that real estate has given me the ability to provide for my family and given me something that I love. While I can't say I would do this even if I weren't paid to do it (reality does intrude!) I definitely would still be a realtor even if I won the lottery.

Sweet post, Rain!  If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would move to Paris and work there to help English speakers find great investment condos.  And I would do it for fun.  Oh, yeah.  I'd have them pay me.

The most important home I sell is YOURS!

I absolutely LOVE what I do!  I could quit tomorrow and financially, be ok.  I wouldn't have the extra perks of travel and spoiling the grandkids, but I could eat pretty well and pay the bills.  However, I am not a "sitter".  On a recent RV trip, I met many folks who quit and hit the road full time.  Many of them said they missed some sort of structure.  The first year or so was fine, but they now wanted something more.  This line of work offers us the opportunity for flexibility.  You do, however,  have to love it, or it's not the line of work for you.

Thanks Rain for this thought provoking post. I have been fortunate through out my life to make my own decisions with regards to what I want to do with my life. If I won the lottery, I would stop working and spend more time with my family, animals and in the creative arts arena.
