Passages of Tucson Project Update

A little while ago, I wrote about Passages of Tucson, an exciting new multi-use project that is going to occupy around 400 acres in SouthEast Tucson and promises to provide dynamic momentum for the Tucson real estate market. The project is slated to be the largest of its kind in North America. Yesterday, the company announced the latest Development Plan in concert with accepting interest letters for businesses wanting to locate in The Passages.

It appears this isn't just any old project. The site shows they're building everything on a "passages" theme- to pay homage to the location- how it's been a route for thousands of years and various cultures. It looks like it's going to be pretty nice.

There is a lot of "baited breath" awaiting progress on this project. The entire east side of Tucson will be different 10 years from now.

Other possible effects will be reduced pressure on internal traffic arteries in Tucson, increased visitors to town due to the "destination shopping factor," and others. It certainly bears watching...and is making things interesting, to say the least!

This will probable add to the "eastern link" effect between the Phoenix area and Tucson. There are plenty of folks who avoid the I-10 and take an eastern "passage" up through the southeast valley... I'm sure projects like that will push the need for even better travel routes for those in your north east and our southeast citizens.

Chuck - there has been some talk about making that "eastern link" more of a reality than an effect. Not a whole lot of action, but you're right that projects like this will push the issue. I still have a difficult time believing that most of the I-10 stretch between the two metros remains 2 lanes each way. Ridiculous!
