The Annual Chore Of Storing Away The Window AC Units

As you put away your window AC units for the season a minimal amount of maintenance now will make installing your unit(s) more enjoyable next season.

Leaving a window AC unit in the window over the winter is a BAD idea. It's hard on the AC unit and even with a good cover over the unit you will experience heat loss. Once you have removed it maintenance will be minimal.

Thank heavens for central air conditioning!  At least at night, my house was cool as a meat locker, and I don't have to struggle to remove the big bulky units they replaced!

I agree Patricia Kennedy . Central AC beats window units hands down. We do have a lot of homes here however that use hot water heat in the winter and they do not have duct work... thus no way to deliver central Air.

It has been a while since I have used one of these in my home but some of my renters use them so we keep a few around.

Good plan William Feela , I hope I remember to video re-installing it in the spring.

That's where the two I have came from Bob Crane , my rentals.

Good morning Bob.  I've seen some of those units that you can tell they haven't been taken out in decades.

It would be amazing if they still run James Dray and if they did it's because back then they were made with pride and made to last (in America).

I can remember when window units were the rule of the day, here in Sacramento.  My own home had one before I converted to central air, back in the late 1980s.  I hadn't considered that in some areas of the country where it gets colder, that it would be necessary to store window units away for winter.  I learned something new today!

When it gets to 30 below zero (or anywhere below freezing) you would have great heat loss around a window AC unit Myrl Jeffcoat . I've seen people try to insulate around them but they are not that hard to remove and store them properly.
