Staging Inventory 'Must Haves' - A great white slipcovered sofa

Think of it like a little black dress....

I didn't have many of these in the beginning.  It was hard to find them locally without spending an arm and a leg.  I've recently found a great source for them and so we've been using them quite a bit lately.  My favorite thing about them is that they go with almost anything and they morph depending on what you pair them with.

Check out some of our recent uses....

All of these homes look different, and are paired with different chairs, accessories, etc.  The great thing is they work in each situation!

A great white sofa.... something that should be in a stagers' inventory!

Thanks for this post Melissa.  I actually have one but I've always thought that it looked too traditional.  It's a damask fabric and I'm always fearful of something looking old fashioned. It's not slipcovered, the white is the sofa.  It's in great shape, (hard to keep clean) and currently being used in a staging with a slipcover.  With your post I'm thinking I need to reconsider it.

Hard to see in this "before" shot, but you'll get the basic look, What do you think?

Melissa - I buy mine at Ikea and have a collection of different color slipcovers. You have to steam the heck out of them (I hate wrinkles) but they are so adaptable to all color schemes. Since our architecture is mainly traditional in this area they fit with the styles of most of the homes and are easily changed with throw pillows.

Melissa - great use of money buying a sofa that is a multi-tasker and looks good so many different ways.

Melissa, love these rooms. I just did a similar property with white slip covers. I don't have the opportunity often with this particular style of house and its always a joy. Simply lovely! Kym

That's funny!  I have on in my inventory that I was going to sell at a garage sale.  The fabric doesn't quite cover if it is placed over a dark sofa.  Not sure why because it is a heavy fabric but I just haven't been happy with it.  Glad you are having success with yours.

Melissa - I love those. Where is the best place to get them?

Hi Melissa,  We have about 6 of those in both the sofa and loveseat size and they are by far our most versitile items.  We get ours from IKEA (or Craig's List).  They are the Ektorp sofa and also have coordinating chairs and a variety of slipcovers.  We only use the white slipcovers and wash them when necessary.  They are very lightweight for moving and the legs easily come of if need be to fit through tight spaces.  They look just like the more pricey Pottery Barn "basic" slipcovered sofa and work especially well with a cottage decorating scheme, which we seem to do a lot of living in a beach town.

I have creams and tans, but no white yet.  It is very sharp looking, tho.  I like!!!
