The Cascade Theatre is part of the river community of Redding’s ambiance. It is a historic part of Redding and provides a cultural glimpse into our future—a blend of the new and the old.

The theatre was official opened on a Friday evening, August 9, 1935 with a Grand Opening and all the trimmings. The newspaper announced the formal opening with “the finest cinema house in northern California. The theatre was the project of T. and D., Jr. Enterprises for the residents of Shasta and nearby counties. The theatre was the latest design and offered rich interior gilted gold, plush carpets, architectural ambiance and lighting effects.

It was noted by Judge Richard Eaton that the Cascade was a commercial endeavor that displayed special attention to artistic considerations, of the Art Deco style.

The Cascade Theatre is currently the center of many of Redding’s cultural events and is the multi-use performing arts center for the community new and old. It has survived due to the dedication and hard work of many people to restore and maintain this historic treasure.
