"I'm a model, you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah, on the catwalk, on the catwalk, yeah
I do my little turn on the catwalk" Right Said Fred
Passion is where you find it. One of Liz's is helping animals. We have a house full of rescue cats and dogs. And Liz has found a way to blend that helping animals with helping people too, with our Chihuahua Bunny serving as a pet therapy dog at the local hospice, a senior center and the local VA hospital. And she's doing her best to get a certified pet therapy cat too! Dogs are relatively easy, cats? You know the phrase "herding cats", right?? :)
And that's where Bindi's story starts. A few years ago Liz was doing her usual Sunday afternoon volunteer shift at an area Petsmart and adopting out cats, when someone walked in with a small kitten they'd found stuck in a fence. She was small and HUNGRY!! Liz brought her home to foster her. She needed bottle fed, and often because of her age!
Liz named her "Bindi" because of the little red mark on the kitten's forehead. She hoped that because she was being handraised that Bindi would become a therapy cat as she grew older. So Bindi became what is known as a "foster failure" because we never adopted her out and instead made her a permanent part of our household.
As it turned out, Bindi doesn't have the ideal temperament to be a pet therapy cat, at least not yet! She's a bit of a diva, and that makes sense considering her background. She's a beautiful cat with a very striking fur pattern. One of our friends is connected with a Cincinnati photographer who does commercial work for Iams, Eukanuba and other companies needing high grade photos for their advertising. When the photographer needed cat models for Iams, our friend contacted us and Bindi was one of two cats we took to the shoot. She was one of six cats overall as part of the shoot and there was no guarantee that she'd make the final cut, but she was a pro for the photo shoot! Our other cat's potential career as a model was pretty short, too much noise, flash and commotion so back to the crate for him!
The photographer mailed us the payment for the use of our two cats and that's pretty much the typical end of it. You don't hear back if or if not they use the photos, or where in the world they get used.
But this week we decided to take a cruise through the pet food section and look. Bags of cat food? No Bindi. Oh well. Oh wait, what about these little snack bags?? That's BINDI!!
So Bindi has her own Scarlet O'hara story, from a stuck in a fence kitten to a "famous" cat model! It's quite a "tail" for a rescue cat!
