Fall Haying In Local Middletown, CT

Middletown, CT, CT is not thought of as a rural or farm town, but both the South-Side and Northwest-Side of Middletown have several working farms.  The farm in the picture above and the pictures of the farm below are of farms just down the street from me, less than 1/4 mile away.  Besides the cows, horses, and crops on these farms, they also grow their own hay.  This past week the local Farmers were out bailing the hay they cut earlier in the week before.

For these Farmers this is nothing special and a lot of hard work.  But for a city slicker like me, watching them haying and then bailing it is a special sight.  The local Farmers will do this several times during the Summer and again in the Fall.  The hay they produce and bail is what their animals will survive on during the Winter months.  I hope you enjoy the pictures below of the Fall Haying In Local Middletown, CT.

George, farming is a lot of hard work(from what I've seen), these are some beautiful photos you've captured.

Really interesting photos Ed. I did not think of Middletown, CT as being that rural. Shows what I know.

A lot of hard work is shown in your photos George Souto but it appears they had pretty weather for their hay baling!

Good Morning George - there is always work on the farm.  It reminds me of taking my daughters to hay rides around Halloween time.

Hi George.  We should all be grateful for these farmers that do a lot of hard work to keep us well fed.

Great pictures, George. For those of us who don't live on or near farms it's so easy to forget how hard they work.

Hi George Souto , Living is a farming area, here in Indiana, your photos look familiar.  It's not unusual to see the farm equipment being pulled by teams of horses, as we have a large Amish community in northeast Indiana.

Looks like they've had a good season for hay and the horses will be happy.  I get to experience this when we visit my hubby's family farm back in Canada.  Haying is hard work and it's always on those hot days when you'd rather be kicking back with a cold drink in the shade, but such is the life of a farmer.
