Living in Clarksville, TN has been one of the most rewarding times of my life. I feel such a commitment to the military and to the support of our families here at home. I was recently made aware that Caleb Campbell has gotten a free ride as far as his military careet is concerned and it makes me very angry. Tell me what you think?
Roger Staubach was one of the greatest quarterbacks in National Football League history. However, as a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he honored his commitment to his country by serving four years as a naval officer, one year in Vietnam, before enjoying the riches of playing in the NFL.
Enter Caleb Campbell, a recent graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, where he played for the Army team. In the recent NFL draft, Cadet Campbell was selected to play for the Detroit Lions, taking advantage of an Army rule allowing him to serve his four-year commitment as a stateside Army recruiter and play football for Detroit on weekends.
Many of Mr. Campbell's fellow academy graduates will be sent to Afghanistan or Iraq, facing possible injury or death while Mr. Campbell enjoys the riches of playing professional football.
Shame on Mr. Campbell, the NFL and the Army for placing the riches of a sport over commitment to America and its taxpayers who provided Mr. Campbell with a free education.
