Are you a gambler?

Are you a gambler?

Gambling, n. the practice of wagering or playing for stakes.

What does that really mean? Does it always mean you are betting in the hopes that you will win more than your wager? Does it mean you may lose money? Does it relate to Real Estate?

I write this as my family sit's in front of the TV watching the Kentucky Derby. I on the other hand am reading and writing on AR.

As Real Estate agents, we're gamblers.  We play for the stakes.  The stakes are, we have a customer and we hope to win them over.  We hope to win the "stakes" or the remuneration (the pay in return for service, time spent, etc.) at the close of a deal.  We hope the hour's we spend looking for properties (for buyers) and customer's (for sellers) pay off in the end.  It is a gamble. It's a hope to seal a deal.  It's not typically known as a gamble or gambling in Real Estate, however, it is.  It's a risk. Gambling is a risk, most of the time for the hope of monetary return, just like a Real Estate deal.

Do you consider selling Real Estate a gamble?

Hi Karen.  I would say no I don't.  If it is, I have been on the losing end often.

Karen:

Real estate is a numbers game, and in that sense I can relate to the idea that it is somewhat like gambling. The only thing that is different is that the odds are more in your favor in real estate.

Karen.. I consider life a gamble.  There are never any guarantees... especially in real estate.

Ken,

I personally don't gamble on races, slots, etc., however, I have to say, I do take a gamble when I spend lot's of time showing properties - hoping in the long term for a closing, a deal, and a paycheck.

Lorraine and Loretta,

I like that positive attitude of yours, The only thing that is different is that the odds are more in your favor in real estate. Seem's to make the gamble worth-while doesn't it?

Valerie,

Thank you for your opinion, I have to agree with what you say! I consider life a gamble.  There are never any guarantees... especially in real estate. I especially like the comment,,,there are NEVER ANY GUARANTEES!

Karen - even though I live in Vegas I DO NOT gamble...would rather buy me something nice than let a machine eat my money.  Real estate is an investment not a gamble!

Mary,

Thank you for your perspective.  What I meant by my opinion was that we gamble when we take on new customers, we hope they're serious and they buy, not looker's who will waste our time.  The gamble is sealing the deal.

Karen,

For me, getting up in the morning is a gamble!

Jim,

Now that is too funny, me too! Eventually there are enough coin's in the slot to tip the bed over and roll me out!  LOLOL!!! Unless I have a closing, then I'm thinking "jackpot"!
