Living the Dream in Katy TX
There are numerous reasons why folks fall in love with Katy and love to live in Katy, TX. plus why they are living the American Dream! Katy is made up of old or historic Katy which is a old city dating back to the 1890’s and a very large unincorporated geographic area made up of numerous family oriented neighborhoods. As a generality Katy and the surrounding areas are approximately 25-35 miles west of Downtown Houston depending on where exactly you live. This area is spread out and miles of distance lose the stigma of being too far away when you live here for awhile.
Katy is close enough to Houston to allow residents the ability to enjoy all the things there are to do in the fourth largest and spread out geographically major US City. George Bush International airport is about 45 miles from our home in Katy and depending on the time of day a very doable drive. There is also Hobby airport and several other local airports to choose from as traveling in and out is not that difficult. Plus driving to San Antonio and or Austin is not difficult and both of these cities are wonderful vacation destination places to visit. This area is not what I call a vacation destination but with all the other available close by choices it really does not matter.

Houston has professional sports teams such as the Astros, Texans, Rockets, Dynamo, Dash and minor league baseball Sugarland Skeeters. San Antonio has our favorite the Spurs! The Houston has college and certainly high school and junior High school sports teams of numerous varieties. People who live in the Katy area have so many choices of activities to participate in and enjoy. This is a big part of Living the Dream.
There are so many other things Houston has to offer such great restaurants, wonderful medical care facilities, entertainment of any type, shopping, museums, employment opportunities, affordable housing ( compared to other major cities housing is a bargain here) etc. I think everyone gets the picture.
The Gulf of Mexico is approximately 60-75 miles from Katy and certainly is close enough for residents to enjoy all water sports.

Katy and the surrounding areas has something to offer to virtually everyone and covers all age brackets from young to seniors and varied range of interests. Katy is interesting as it has essentially all the attributes Houston has other than professional sports but we do have the Katy Tigers High School Football team! If you have interests in stamp collecting, coin collecting, sports cars, you name it there is a group that exists somewhere in the Katy area. There are numerous restaurants, movie theaters, entertainment facilities, medical facilities plus hospitals, Doctors, a water park, shopping strip malls and Katy Mills Mall, and this list just goes on and on. There are way too many things to even begin to list.
One of the key salient reasons why folks want to move to Katy or relocate to the Katy area are the highly acclaimed schools. Katy ISD is a highly rated school district with 7 High Schools, 14 Jr, High Schools, 39 Elementary and around 70,000 students and a School staff of about 9,000. Obviously Katy ISD has grown into a huge school district and it continues to grow every year. I do not see a change in growth other than it might slow down from its frantic growth pattern of the last 10 years.
The Katy and surrounding areas have numerous neighborhoods to choose from with many being classified as Master Planned Communities. One problem folks relocating to the Katy area have is there maybe too many great choices of neighborhoods to choose from assuming that is a disadvantage. These neighborhoods extend north of Interstate I-10 and south of I-10 and encompass a very large geographical area. The vast majority of these neighborhoods have a huge array of amenities including depending on the neighborhood swimming pools, tennis courts, dog parks, walking, biking hiking trails, parks, playgrounds, splash pads, putting greens, etc. The list goes on and on depending on the specific neighborhood and area. Katy is a family and pet friendly area made up of a very diverse population base.
Home prices have gone up in the last several years but are still less expensive than most areas in Houston and outside Houston such as the Woodlands. Home prices in the Katy area are certainly more affordable than most areas which are geographically close to other major US cities.
There are several routes one can take when commuting from Katy to other areas around Houston and inside the city limits. Houston without question had bad traffic but at least by Living the Dream in Katy there are alternatives while in some areas that is not the case.
If you enjoy romantic evenings outside the Katy area has its own special charm especially when the weather cools down like it has in the last few days.
I could write numerous additional lines if not pages.
