Easy Kitchen Remodel Ideas to Help Sell Your Home Fast

If you’re in the process of selling your home, your real estate agent has probably already let you in on a few trade secrets that can help the process move along quickly. At Home Improvement Leads, we think that there are a few key areas of the home that potential buyers are keen to see, with the kitchen being at the top of the list. That’s why we’ve come up with a few of our own tips and tricks for simple kitchen remodels that will help you to sell your home fast.

Switch out your fixtures and fittings

One of the easiest and most budget-friendly ways to give your kitchen a fresh look is by repainting or changing out the knobs and handles on your cabinets and drawers. This option is often recommended by real estate agents who want to help sellers save money and make their kitchen look like new without overspending on new cabinetry. The same goes for your kitchen sink: there’s nothing like a fancy new tap to make potential buyers fall in love with your kitchen.

Improve your lighting

While major lighting renovations require substantial work and potentially a professional to come in and complete the job, you can upgrade your kitchen lighting easily by changing out light fixtures and bulbs. Although you want to make sure your chosen fixtures gel with the rest of the kitchen design style, this is one area where you can splurge and branch out creatively so your kitchen is memorable and one of a kind.

Declutter your worktops

This point may go without saying, but it bears repeating that a cluttered kitchen is not an attractive one. If at all possible, find a drawer or shelf on which you can store your small kitchen appliances, cookbooks, and storage jars and free up as much counter space as you can to keep your kitchen looking crisp and clean.

Use storage wisely

If your kitchen is short on space, make sure to provide a range of storage solutions so that buyers can visualize how they’ll use your kitchen’s space, given the limitations. Creative wall storage (floating shelves, display cabinets, or even corkboard pot and pan storage à la Julia Child), organized drawers and cabinets, and a well-arranged pantry will alleviate the fears of a small kitchen.

Upgrade your appliances

If you have extra money in your remodeling budget, a few top-of-the-range kitchen appliances will attract attention during viewings. While many potential buyers will bring in their own white goods, the convenience of new, under warranty appliances installed and ready to go in a home is likely to sway more than a few minds—and wallets.

 Freshen up your walls

When it comes to tidying up your home for sale, never underestimate the power of a fresh coat of paint. For kitchens, we recommend choosing a mold- and mildew-resistant paint that can withstand temperature and humidity changes. Select a color that accentuates the rest of the room—including appliances and cabinetry—and steer clear from anything too controversial or striking.

Update your backsplash

While most of the tips on our list involve little to no remodeling work, this particular pointer can be fairly DIY heavy. If you’re up for the job, a fresh and trendy kitchen backsplash that wows house hunters will make the difference between an average kitchen and an amazing one. We love subway tiles, glass mosaics, and faux stone panels, but our only recommendation here is that you choose a new backsplash that matches the style and design of your kitchen while making it stand out for all the right reasons.

Stage your kitchen

Before opening your doors for an open house, make sure your kitchen looks, feels, and smells like home. Remove excess clutter while still maintaining a personal touch, such as with family portraits and heirloom plates. Adorn your dining table or kitchen island with fresh-cut flowers or cuttings from your backyard to add a pop of color and interest. Finally, while it seems cliché, a fresh batch of homemade (or frozen and baked!) cookies never goes amiss for potential buyers who are looking for their forever home.
