Leap Coffee in Carlsbad - C'mon, Make the Leap

Make the Leap to Leap Coffee in Carlsbad

There’s a newish (since April 2016) coffee place in town and it’s garnering a lot of attention. And for good reason!

I had a business meeting with the publisher for Carlsbad Lifestyle Magazine, and she suggested Leap Coffee. I had heard of it but hadn’t yet stopped in, so it was a great opportunity to find out what the buzz was about.

Certainly much of the buzz is the coffee – some of the best I have tasted. And they roast coffee there, too!! Now I know where I am buying my beans!

Leap Coffee in Carlsbad

Leap Coffee has a vibe like no other coffee place I’ve seen and far from the cramped stuffiness some offer. It’s kinda minimalist industrial, with high ceilings, great light, concrete floors, comfortable seating, and some neat colorful artwork on the walls. There was a constant stream of people while we were meeting, but it never felt crowded, and it’s the sort of atmosphere that encourages you to just hang out and enjoy wonderful coffee and, I’ve been told, some really good food. That’s to check out on the next visit!

I had an opportunity to meet the mind behind Leap Coffer, owner/founder JJ Cutbirth. We didn’t have long to chat this time, but JJ brings a long-standing enthusiasm and passion for coffee to Leap Coffee, combined with his interests in culinary arts, wine, architecture and design, and a 15-year career in medical real estate development.

Intrigued? You need to check out Leap Coffee, a roastery, café, and wholesale. It’s a bit off the beaten path and not in the middle of town, or a mega strip mall. And that suits it just fine!! Who wants to be like everyone else!?

Next time I'm in the San Diego/Carlsbad area I'll have to hop on over to Leap. (See what I did there?)  :-)  Thanks for the info Jeff.

Great review. I enjoy coffee, but I'm all about the food. Can't wait for your next update!

This looks like a fun place.  I love supporting local businesses instead of the big chains.

I am not a coffee drinker Jeff but I sure like the smell of fresh beans. This really looks like a relaxing place to hang out.

Great promotion of a local small business, and Leap sounds like a place I'd be on board with - I like good coffee spots to sneak away and get some creative work done from time to time.  I may be searching for one tonight!

Thanks Roy Kelley  - it's a pretty cool place and my guess is plenty of people don't know about it yet.

Jerry Murphy, CRS  - ha ha I did. You're a clever guy! Like the new profile photo!

Hi Noah Seidenberg  - I'm usually a 1-cup-a-day type of person but I love freash coffee and freshly roasted beans.

John Meussner  - great coffee places are such a pleasure, but some really don't encourage you to sit, drink and relax. Hope you find yours my friend!

It would indeed, I think. I stopped in briefly today to get some Costa Rican beans and the place was hoppin' at lunch time!

Interesting career combination.  I've often thought of a book store, coffee house for when I'm ready to retire.  I could just read and have coffee with folks all day every day, wouldn't that be lovely.

Tammy Lankford,   - a business like this would be a lot of work I think. Maybe just working there and not running the business?

I love the aromas of coffee shops. I tell my husband that if I didn't sell real estate I would be a barista. It wouldn't be like working.
