If you use emoji and want to find an image to depict vacation, you’ll probably use a palm to convey the subject with one click. In fact palms are well-known symbols for the tropics and vacations.
There are nearly 2600 hundreds of different species of palm trees. Most widely known ones are date palms and coconut palms. Palms thrive in tropical, subtropical and in generally warm, temperate climates. They are widely planted for landscaping, but over time also have served as important sources of food, e.g. bananas, coconut milk and coconut meat.
Reportedly, in the past, palms have also been known as symbols of victory, peace and fertility. They can serve as majestic “gate-keepers”, form stately avenues, provide shade or a whimsical, eye-catching attraction. Most of the time, they are simply admired for their beauty.
