My Wildly Successful Venture

Let me start out by saying I've done a lot of really fun and successful ventures over the years to build relationships and business. From Reverse Christmas Cookie Exchanges, Easter Baskets, Pumpkin & Scarecrows .....you name I've probably done it!

The best venture by far were our Monthly Business Mixers that we hosted at our home for about 40 to 50 people for about 8+ years.  All of the attendees had some kind of business or professional service to offer and we did a lot of business with each other, and still do to this day.   But these were not your ordinary Business Mixers - Oh No! We went full out on a theme for each event whether it be Christmas, Valentines, St Paddy's Day, Easter,Hawaiian Flip Flop, French/ Art Walk (the favorite mixer by a long shot), Halloween and many other themes.  As you'll see by the pictures we had a blast with getting creative with each theme! Our caterer prepared a delicious menu to fit each theme perfectly - oh she was such an incredible chef!  We also chose wines and other beverages to go along with each theme. And for some holidays the attendees wore the appropriate holiday clothing. Like I said this was a really REALLY Fun Group and they were up for just about any crazy idea!

We had a leadership board of 8 members that helped us in the preparation, decorating, sign-ins, follow ups, newsletter, emails - all the stuff one needs to do to manage a big group. So the heavy work wasn't left to just Gary and myself - thankfully!

Each event was low key and not a 'heavy' networking scene but more about how we help each other out. Givers Gain was our motto.  The idea was to really get to know each other well and having a low key atmostphere did the trick. Did we talk business?  Yes and No.  Was the group widly successful?  YES! YES! YES!

Again you make me wish I was living closer, Anna Banana Kruchten ... these "get-togethers" look like a blast ... and beneficial, as well.

And as a side-note, 2 things:  I'm diggin' those Banana Pants shown in the 1st pic ... and very glad to see the official BananaTude logo back onboard in our Group listing.  'Bout time ...

BethAnn Long agreed!  This bunch has had  a lot of fun over the years and I've got another planned for this month since we haven't met over the summer months. As for the 'how to's that is a post on it's own but when I get a chance I'll lay it out for you and others that have asked.

Noah Seidenberg thanks!  It's been a ton of effort and work but it's really been the best networking group!

Myrl Jeffcoat thanks for the feature in the Old Farts Group!  Reverse cookie exchange was a lot of fun.  Here's how it worked: I had a bakery make up a whole bunch of sugar cookies for Christmas and I bought all the decorations needed. All my ladies and their daughters  were invited. We had a friend of mine who was a chef do a cooking presentation and THEN we all decorated cookies.  My husband and a buddy would stop in at the end and judge the decorating. The winners went home with a fun door prize.  All attendes also had a little bag of goodies to take home as well as a dozen cookies they decorated!!  It think I did that for 3 years or so and then we shifted to another event for all.

Tammy Lankford, exactly!!  That is how I've always done business, by getting to really know folks and caring about them and being of service.  Kind of the old fashioned way and it works for me!

Charles Stallions yes I get that 50 may seem like a lot for most folks.  But for me it's just normal as that's how my parents were - always ready to host a big group of people.  My husband and I have everything on hand for big groups and it's like clock work for us to pull them together - along with the help of a few friends. The details is for another post of which I'll put together when I've got some time as others have asked for that as well. Thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT weekend!

Lottie Kendall they were a blast.  No after 8 years or so I really needed to take a break from doing them every month.  We still do them on a quarterly basis but in a different format based around holiday typically. I'm setting one up for October called "Fall Roundup for Cowboy Wine Lovers" - kind of a cowboy wine tasting with a twist!!

I can't imagine doing monthly events of this magnitude; quarterly must be equally effective and deflinitely more sustainable. Great fun, I'm sure.

Bob "RealMan" Timm FUN - absolutely!  As for the size we have a huge back yard which we use most of the year for these events. We don't have winter like you guys! And we have plenty of bistro tables and chairs that are easily stored when not in use. It's like clock work for my husband and I to set up along with a few friends. Planning one for this month " Fall Round Up for Cowboy Wine Lovers"! Join us!!

Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi I wish you lived closer as well.  It would be a blast to have you and your wife join the fun!   Glad  you noticed my fancy banana pants!  I couldn't believe I actually found them one day at Macy's!!  This event was a 1/2 and 1/2 Black tie party - have formal - half crazy!  Way fun!! I still wear them from time to time for other events.....

YES I am so glad Bob Stewart was able to get the Bananatude group logo back where it belongs!!

Hi Anna - That's the kind of business group I'd want to join. BTW, what's a reverse cookie exchange? Is that where I sneak into your house and steal all your cookies?

This is a fabulous idea! However I would not be able to squeeze 40-50 people in my house for a get together.  Hmmm, have to think of one of our vendors that would have the space to make this happen.  Sounds fun, exciting, creative and just Smart Business!  Building Relationships is always the way to go!  Loved this post!

Diana Dahlberg that's a good idea to team up with some of your associates!! Not everyone has the space to create these events in their homes. Being in Phoenix we 'live' outside so that's what gives us so much space to entertain large groups. It's all about relationships!!

Yes you have the weather on your side to do more outdoor gatherings year round.  Here in Wisconsin it's too hit and miss ... like this week - we have had some type of rain or drizzle happening almost every day.  Makes it hard to plan anything outdoors that's for sure.
