Holmes Rd old house Searcy AR

The house that Ballard Holmes built.

This old rock house dates way back.  The court house says it was built in 1916 and that makes it 100 years old!  That's a long time and the family who built it loved it!  The family owned land around it before the town grew up all around the property so when streets were named they called the street Holmes Road.  We all travel it from time to time.

I am thinking that I, having married into this family by marrying the first grandchild that was born to the Ballard Holmes family,  took this picture sometime in the late 60's or early 70's in order to paint an oil for my mother-in-law.  The picture has just resurfaced and reminded me that the house is still up there.

It is not as easy to see now because of large trees and neighboring houses but it is there.  Hubby wishes he could see inside again because he vividly remembers being spoiled there!   The court house picture shows it looking like this.  It still looks impressive, doesn't it?  Happy 100th anniversary, Holmes Road Rock House!

I think Roger and Bob (Fuller) should get together one afternoon, and go knock on the door of this house, and Bob's grandmother's house .....they both have such memories of growing up in those houses....I'm thinking the owners would let them go in and look around. Let's work on that.

I guess I remember all the houses my grandmother and grandfather lived in very  well since I lived there also.

Don, those memories are good ones, too, I suspect.  We have had a few on this blog, haven't we?

Don!  I loved going back and seeing those old blogs.  You are so good at the searching for old ones.  Truly, I kind of forget what I did do.  My favorite may be the one with one boy and all those girls.  He was SO cocky! (Is that the right word?)  Definitely he was spoiled rotten since he was the first grandchild!
