Cost are rising! Now even postage

I am sure you are sick of seeing the price of everything growing and growing!  Gas, groceries, and now STAMPS.  The postal service has decided as of May 12th the stamp will increase to 42 cents. Postage Stamp

While the most visible change is the 1-cent increase for First-Class Mail letters, the changes are broader and include prices that could save when shipping packages:

  • Reduced Express Mail prices for items shipped to addresses closer to home
  • Lower online postage prices for Express Mail and Priority Mail (domestic and international)
  • Volume Express Mail price rebates for frequent shippers
  • Additional flat-rate box prices for Priority Mail

For the first time, USPS pricing will include commercial volume and contract prices, rebates, online price reductions, and other new incentives.

Postmaster General John Potter had this to say about the changes -"These innovative pricing incentives will make our products more attractive to all shippers, especially small businesses. We're pricing our products to sell in today's competitive shipping market."

Even though the USPS feels that this change will make their products more attractive to people that ship - their "product" is not more attractive to the average consumer who mainly mail letters - which is the majority of their business.

I know I heard about it frats!!!  What can we do but deal with it.  Have a great day.

Tracy, not that I'm pleased with the rising costs, but the Post Office is stuck with having to deliver everywhere and does not have the option of dropping unprofitable routes.  The rising price of fuel is the major culprit.

I like the Forever stamps - that you buy at today's rate and they are forever a first class stamp no matter how much they raise the cost of them:)

I have been purchasing the Forever stamps since they were introduced. I bought some the other day to last a few months - I will have to go look at the "cheaper prices" for the priority mail online since all of my relocation packages are sent that way - thanks for the tips!
