Temple Lea was born in Austin, Texas back in 1860 to Samuel and Margaret. By the time he turned 7 both of his parents had died so he lived with his older sister. At 13 he left home and joined a cattle drive. He also worked on a riverboat on the Mississippi River. I don’t have a date however, with the help of a fried he gained an appointment as a page in the U.S. Senate working at Washington D.C. for three years.
He returned to Texas in 1877 where he attended the Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Texas A&M University) and later transferring to Baylor University in Waco. In 1880 he graduated with honors in law and philosophy. He was admitted to the bar and at the time was the youngest attorney in Texas.
In 1884 he was elected to a single term in the Texas State Senate. In 1894 he moved to Woodward, Oklahoma where he remained until his death in 1905. He is buried at the Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward. If you haven’t guessed it by now I'm writing about Temple Lea Houston. He was the last child born to Sam Houston who was the first elected president of the Republic of Texas. Ms. Kathy if you don’t nail this one I’ve finally got you however, I don’t think that will happen
