unexpected gift

My First Settlement at Re/Max I Received an Unexpected Gift

There was a young couple we had been looking for a house for several weeks. Every-time we found a house they liked we ran into multiple offers and they lost it . They were FHA buyers with minimum money down .

An agent in my office knew I was working with these young buyers and told me she was going on a listing that was perfect for them .  She told me she would have the listing on Saturday  afternoon .  She would call me and I could show it right away  but she warned me do not play around with price . I do not have a problem with FHA or seller assist . I told her I wouldn't play with the price .

The buyers walked in the house and loved it . The sellers had a  Spaniel they were crying the blues about having to get rid of the dog . I shared stories with them about my Spaniel and what a good dog she was and how sad I was when she died . They asked the buyers if they wanted the dog but they said their daughter was allergic . I said I wished I could take the dog .   I told them I had another dog but I would ask around and see if someone would take it . I also asked if the dog had pedigree papers they said yes . They said the dog was up to date with shots

We went back to the office the house had everything the buyers wanted . The buyers wanted to offer less but I explained we would lose the house if we played around with the price and they agreed . We wrote a full price offer and it was accepted

setllement gift

The day of settlement in walked the sellers  with the dog  complete with dog bowl leash, blanket  and food  The other agent looked at me and laughed . She said the dog is a gift for you . Me ??  I can't take the dog  Well she said they  said you are taking it and started to laugh . I called home and explained .

The dog's name was Tina . The Pedigree papers were grooming papers  I did take her home  but had to find a home for her. She would fight with my Collie who was a sweet Lassie type dog. She would fight until she drew blood .  I had a client who was a Dog Groomer who found an older lady who took her

The other agent and I are still great friends to this day . In fact we had lunch yesterday and we laughed about the time I got a dog at settlement

First of all congratulations on this success. Your buyers must have been thrilled.

Receiving a dog as a closing gift, and FROM the sellers, is quite the twist. Glad you were able to work it all out, but what a great story!

Debbie Reynolds  One I will never forget and my family either

Jeff Dowler  The buyers and I were in shock . The other agent who I am still great friends with was laughing at me .  The sellers just wanted a home for the dog and just left her with me . Being an animal lover Tina stayed with me for several months .  I am glad you enjoyed the story it did have a happy ending

Now that is a first, Hannah!  Great story!  I did once have a buyer who came through my own house and included my crated dog in the Offer to Purchase!  Of course my answer was a resounding NO but, your story reminded me of that incident some 20 years ago!

Debe Maxwell  So glad you enjoyed my story it is one my family laughs about to this day .  Did the buyers really think you would give up your family dog to sell the house ? What great stories were told in this contest

Thank you for your comment it is greatly appreciated
