Hardships, and needs can sometimes break our heart when we feel powerless to affect a sale on the home of someone in need.  Even the best real estate agent sometimes realizes that there are no quick fixes.  Over the years in real estate I've sometimes am astounded when there are no possible solutions on the horizon,...that an earnest prayer actually sold the home!  Does this sound unbelievable?  It isn't.  Sometimes we can have the perfect home listed, at an incredible price with a great location and nothing happens!  Other times we get an opportunity to list a home that would not be our last choice and guess what?  It sells in record time without any hassles?  If it were to happen just a few times, I would be the first to chalk up a sale or two as a coincidence.  It is more than that!  I have had it a happen one too many times when I can acknowledge that I've run out of all solutions and I am challenged to get the deal done to assist the needs of our clients.  The easiest way to do it is just an acknowledgement to God of your needs.  It is called "Humility!"  We acknowledge our limitations and request the aid of God!  Guess what?  Often times it works!  I am not a religious fanatic, but in the current market I try to remember everyday my clients, close associates and all those that struggle to find a solution.  Realtors, lenders, inspectors, brokers, buyers, attorneys, and sellers...we are all in this together!  I would love to hear you share your thoughts and experiences!  This can be fun to share!

I think positive thoughts get positive actions.  It is the law of attraction.  You can call it prayer, using "The Secret", whatever you want - it is important to be grateful and to have high expectations for your future - your mindset will determine your actions.

I find I face less opposition when I live in daily expectation of divine intervention. I pray/give thanks for favor for my clients in every situation. I pray/give thanks daily for wisdom, creative ideas and solutions to problems. I also thank God for daily ushering in clients and customers to our business and for the wisdom, knowledge, grace and expertise to service the influx of clients in excellence. Daily faith confessions are routine for me. Life (and business) is much easier when you know that you don't have to try to figure out everything alone. :-)

Thanks for posting this topic.

Toni Ellis - North Houston, TX Real Estate  There are times  feel like David and Goliath.  There was absolutely no way to win in a hopeless situation, yet the miracle happens.  I recently had a few really tough deals  in this market that fell apart at the last moment, and there was no time to spare.  Guess what?  Other deals occurred and we closed them within the same time-frame.  A few of these listings had been on the market with other agents for years without any offers.  What were the odds of several offers?

Some think Yoga, meditation, Tai-Chi bring the same results. Prayer can be enjoyed as well.

Toni Ellis - North Houston, TX Real Estate  It is!  I see miracles everyday and share them.  One thing that is important is that we are willing to be part of God's plan.  It isn't luck, it is about participating, and sharing.

Jim:  YES, I do!  I think that everything happens for a reason and whether it's a home that I wouldn't REALLY like to list and it sells quickly, or one that I would personally buy if my 2-years of current homeownership were up (capital gains) and the home just WON'T sell--I'm living a part of the plan, whether it's aimed at me or someone else!  I have to deal with it--I may not like it but, I take my licks and just keep praying!  It REALLY does work and I highly recommend it!

I have never prayed for "me".  I have prayed for guidance to do my job well so that others may benefit. I know my mother would want me to say I am the way I am because of going to church and Sunday School, but I have to admit, it was the movie "It's A Wonderful Life"...George Bailey was a rich man.  Plus, an honorable mention to Fezziwig, in the Dickens Novel, A Christmas Carol.

I believe that if you not a Bible reader God puts messages in other books. (Don't tell my mother.)

Of course it works. Too many people have not stopped to read the bible. Many of our problems as a society are answered but many never listen.

Jim, take time to vist my new blog. Already a pr3 on the first page of googel for my niche market. A blog every other day does wonders. Our market is not as bad as yours and we still pray that we did not flood, have a home and a job after Katrina. New Orleans often is in another world. www.neworleanscondotrends.com

Chris and Rhonda Ruthman, Broker Owners CT & NY  I agree.  Prayer is never for my needs.  One of my favorite movies was "Bruce Almighty!"   The scene where Bruce gets behind the DOT truck with all the signs in it, and still cannot see the hand of God! Sometimes it is our own will that blocks the grace of God.  No matter what happens it is trite.   One can easily substitute the term "Ego" or "Self-centeredness" as the reasons for blocking His works.

Eric Bouler  Eric, I agree!  Like real estate the world has about 20% that gets anything.  The other 80% don't get much of anything.   Most persons think the Bible is just an antiquated book...it isn't.

Thank you so much for this post and isn't it just the way God works to say thank yoiu to us for taking a stand for Him.  I just was told about a group called Christianity and Real Estate here in AR as I had posted something this afternoon.

As to your request about prayer experiences, I am working with a couple looking for a new home and in listening to the heart of God as I listened to them, I realized that these people were probably Christian.  Taking the chance that alll the real estate schools say we are not supposed to discuss (you know politics, religion, etc.) I asked them if they were Christian. They answered yes and we stopped to hold hands and ask God to lead us through this process.  Little to say, we have written a contract (completed) with all in agreement to close in a couple weeks (financing complete also).  In doing this they asked if I would be able to assist them in the sale of a home in Iowa (contract is not contingent on sale) and I assured them I would be able to referr them to the best agent in their community.

WOW does God ever answer prayers if asked for in His glory.

Again thanks for this post and from a fellow Re/Max Greater Atlanta REALTOR.  I hope to get to know you better.

L. Wayne Denton I HAVE A HANDLE ON YOUR MARKET! ! !   God is really incredible!  I recently ran into a person I've not seen in many many years.  I did some research for him and chose a Patent and told him it would hit.  I decided not to invest in his company and I moved on to other things.  Upon our recent meeting, he told me that patent I picked was a success, and that he has opened up a few orphanages.  He is very successful.  All his glory and fame is God's.  To me it is not about the money, it is always about the services we perform on the short term we walk this earth.

Jim,

Prayer indeed needs to be a part of the makeup of every real estate professional...without it, the consumer is dealing with an egomaniac!!! Thanks,   Fran

Fran 'The Title Man' Gaspari Title Insurance-PA & NJ   Sometimes we limit our own choices.  We look at things in life and feel there are only 2 choices.  What I have found with prayer is that endless possibilites open up.

Jim - Prayer is how we open the door for God to work in our lives. The reality is that rather than getting upset or frustrated over something beyond our control, the best thing to do is to pray and let God take control.

Jim:  Praying is an important part of my daily life.  Some people meditate.  The point is that any of these activities help us to focus our mental energies toward an objective.  The cool part is that prayer gets God on our side towards the completion of those objectives.  As my father used to say, one man and God always makes a majority!  Thanks for posting!  Steve

Bob Cumiskey, Your Sun City Center Realtor  Talking to God is even better!  LOL!  I do that too!  Somedays, I need to be on my knees in prayer..., but I get through and great things happen.  It is also good to look for God in all the small routine things in our days.  We overlook them the most.

Steve Homer  I like that saying.  What I really like is the prayer is not about me, but about the needs of others, my concerns for them, and understading that they are also within the will of God.  I try to end my prayers "Thy will not mine...be done."

Jim, I agree that we are all in this together, and with all our teams, a little extra prayer never hurts either. Why perfectly well priced properties take so long to sell sometimes to me comes down to a lack of buyers qualified at a price level for that location.

Spokane Home Loan ~ Casey Brischle ~ Mortgage Loan Officer  The reality is that there are those days that we realize we have done everything we could, and nothing is happening.  I know that when I pray it is never for my own needs, only my clients and their situation.  It is amazing what happens next.  There really is no wrong way to pray.
