VFW Recruits Bloggers - Veterans encouraged to stay up to date with Blogs

Even the local VFW posts are finding ways to reach Veterans online.

The Department of North Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars is actively encouraging local VFW posts to take advantage of the communications available through "blogging" or posting information on a weblog.

Veterans Raleigh news and events, VFW activities in North Carolina, Military Support ProgramsOf 205 North Carolina VFW posts, 48 posts have currently started Blogs.

Topics found can include:

VFW Washington Weekly - updates on the most recent topics in Washington that affect Veterans, such as the recently passed Veterans Bill.

Grand openings of new VA Clinics

Telephone Help for Military, Veterans Expands to "Around-the-Clock" Service

If you're interested in helping your local VFW Post and have at least a little tech experience, you may be able to help a Post/District Commander, Quartermaster or Blogmaster to "claim" available blogs for the 157 districts not already active in the world of Veteran blogging.

The State of North Carolina VFW blogs registered about 10,000 hits during the month of April, and those numbers are sure to increase as more blogs become available and active.   The VFW helps to get important news and information to the country's Veterans, and the VFW blogs are just one more way to do that!

Penny,
Providing information for our veterans is a wonderful service that you are providing.  These people deserve so much more than we can ever give back.

We went to an American Legion event this weekend in Waynesville (mountains) - I was IMPRESSED with the amount of dedication and attention they provide for the local community and the children of vets currently in the service!

Cynthia - "blogging" can be more of a tool for the younger generations, but there are younger generations that are Veterans of Foreign Wars.  I think this will continue to grow - the more soldiers are willing to write and share experiences and tips for everyday life, the more others will read and benefit.

Eleanor - the American Legion and the VFW both have a lot of local community involvement, and are great orgainizations to support.

There's also a Military Officer's Association of America that meets the second Tuesday of each month at NCSU

Eleanor - I'll have to look into that.  Hadn't heard of them before.  Amazing how many support groups are out there if you know where to go!
