The Alameda Architectural Preservation Society is sponsoring Woody Minor’s discussion about Bungalow Courts in Alameda on Sunday, October 23 at 7:00 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1420 Lafayette Street in Alameda.

Bungalow Courts were built in Alameda shortly after the post earthquake boom in population here.  The bungalow courts consisted of cottages around a private drive.  The increased demand for housing and the rise in property values resulted in a new type of development.  Pasadena was the birthplace of bungalow courts in California.

The first bungalows appeared in Alameda in 1910 and were double courts with side by side groups of eight cottage facing a central walk.  Bungalow courts were built in and around Neptune Beach.  Some of these courts were built by noted Alameda builder George H Noble, the city’s leading bungalow builder, one of which is at Marion Court.

Minor will talk about some of the bungalow courts that we may notice in Alameda.  Minor is a Alameda historian who will tell us about some fascinating anecdotes about Alameda’s history.  Come to the AAPS meeting and learn more about Alameda and our interesting history.

And if you love Alameda and want to buy or sell a home in Alameda, please text or call me at 510.504.5612.  I can help you find the home of your dreams in charming Alameda.

As a resident of Stonehenge/Stoneleigh, I can attest that it definitely looks like a movie set. Quite magical.
