Halloween Safety Tips For Homeowners
As the little princesses, superheroes, ghosts, and goblins start to hit the streets this weekend in search of the best candy it’s a good time to make sure your home is ready to safely greet them. Halloween is a fun time for children and adults but, you’ll want to be sure your yard, driveway, steps, and areas surrounding your front door are prepared for all the little visitors.
Walkways and Steps – keep them clear of any yard tools, flower pots, low hanging tree limbs, overgrown bushes, hoses, or debris. Anything that could become a tripping hazard after dark should be removed.
Light – let there be light! Sure, darkness can add to the spooky factor but, it can also add to the accident factor. Test your outdoor lights in advance and replace bulbs as needed. When you’re ready to hand out candy turn on outside lights to give trick-or-treaters a well-lit path to your front door.
Pets – strangers at the door can be unnerving for dogs, cats, and other pets especially when they’re dressed as little ghosts and goblins. Plan ahead to have your pet in a safe place away from the action.
Candles – if at all possible avoid lighting your pumpkins and lanterns with real candles. If you don’t have an alternative be sure to have them in an area where they can’t come in contact with the trick-or-treaters.
