4 Bathroom Trends That Buyers DO NOT LIKE!
Bathrooms weren't top priority to home buyers in the past but, the seem to be more and more of a deal-breaker these days. An essential part of every home, some don’t think it’s the end of the world if there are no jets in the garden tub, others insist on the master tub being jetted.
When it comes to buying and selling a home, sometimes the most insignificant features are a big difference and sometimes, some of the ‘trendy’ baths are not what buyers are looking for.
Home sellers will likely be able to sell their home for more money by avoiding these four bathroom items that buyers do NOT want! benefits of their sale with these four tips on the most unappealing bathroom trends around.
1. Colored Toilets and Sinks
Toilets and sinks in colors like ‘Pretty in Pink’ or ‘Carolina Blue’ were incredibly popular years ago, but they're still loved by many people who enjoy a vintage look or just love bright spaces. However, everyone isn’t into retro are like we are!
And as a home seller, you will have a greater potential to make more money faster if your baths appeal to a wide range of buyers - not just those of use who love retro. Bathrooms decorated in a classic style are great looking to most people, making them more likely to bring you an Offer.
Colored toilets or sinks are better used outdoors!
2. Peel and Stick Contact Paper
Modern peel and stick contact paper is another new trend that's taken over and many interior designers seem to be pushing it. It's available in countless prints, colors and patterns and its popularity continues to grow. Homeowners are using this paper ON their cabinets, furniture, or bathroom walls - much like wallpaper.
Bear in mind before applying this paper to your bathroom cabinets or walls - it is impossible to find a style that the majority of buyers like.
As in every other room in the house, it’s best to decorate in neutral colors with traditional materials that will appeal to your largest buyer pool.
3. Shag Carpet
Okay, so where this trend came from, I’ll never know! It reminds me of popcorn ceilings - whoever thought of it should receive 30 lashes! Yes, carpet is warm and feels great beneath your feet when you step out of the tub but, hear me loud and clear - NO ONE REALLY WANTS CARPET (shag or otherwise) IN THEIR BATHROOM! If you want carpet under your feet when you step out of the shower, use a bath mat that you can throw in the wash each week. Wall-to-wall carpet, exposed to moisture and everything other icky thing in a bathroom, can’t simply be thrown in the washer! It can become moldy and disgusting and harbor unwanted bacteria that you can’t even see.
My advice - stick with tile - neutral colored tile and if you love that soft, warm feel of carpet, there are some beautiful bath mats that will add a pop of color to the ‘boring tile’ and feel wonderful beneath your feet too!
4. Unusual Tile or Linoleum Flooring or Accents
Unusual tile colors and patterns can look outdated, while linoleum flooring can look inexpensive. Unfortunately, neither results are attractive to buyers.
To get the most out of their property, homeowners should consider replacing the flooring with neutral colored tile or a convincing laminate alternative. If you’re thinking of adding tile accent in your bath, either flooring or shower surround - or even bathtub - use something that is classic and not trendy. Any tile/designer can share those colors with you.
