Sunday night I received word that my wonderful aunt had passed. Becky was a very loving, caring and beautiful person. She battled brain cancer for almost a year. During the time of her illness, her family updated other family members and friends of her progress through http://caringbridge.org
Our family is scattered throughout the United States, some in Indiana, Florida, California, Arkansas and other states. We were all updated about Becky's progress, sometimes daily, sometimes weekly. Each morning I would check my e-mail to see if there was an update.
CaringBridge is a free non-profit web service, that helps the family connect with others to share information about a loved one's condition, treatment and recovery. This is such a big help to the family of the loved one, they don't have to continually be on the phone relaying information. There is also a guest book for family and friends to sign, and to leave messages for the loved one and their family.
During Becky's illness I received many e-mails saying that there was a new entry in the journal. I would click on the website and be instantly updated. It was really a wonderful thing, you felt like you were so in touch with the family, and they appreciated all of the comments from the guestbook.
In lieu of flowers, my family and I will make a donation to CaringBridge, in Becky's memory. This will help them maintain the site for others who need it.
WOW what a loving inspiration to pass on to the rest of us. I wish I had know about it as my aunt just passed away and it was hard trying to send the information to all who cared. I will pass it on to others and especially a friend of mine whose son was killed in an automobile accident almost 10 years ago. He heads up a group called compassionate friends that reaches out to others who have lost loved ones. Thank yoiu for caring during your time of loss. My prayers are with you and your family.
