Helpful Tips for Reno Election Day 2016

  • Bring along a valid photo ID.  You might be asked to show it when you check in at your polling location.
  • Don't forget your notes.  In addition to the major candidates on the ballot, several initiatives/measures are also up for vote.  You can download a sample ballot and make notes on it.  Or, if you received a voter booklet outlining everything on the ballot this November, do your homework ahead of time.  Research everything on the ballot.  Write down how you want to vote for each.  Bring this booklet with you.  You will spend much less time in the voter booth than you would without it.
  • Books, kindles and iPods (with headphones) make waiting in a line a little easier.  Catch up on emails on your smartphone.
  • Let everyone know what wait times are at your polling locations via social media.  However, forget about posting a voter selfie inside the booth.  These are illegal in many places throughout the country.  Instead, once you cast your ballot and have exited your polling location, feel free to post a selfie sporting your "I voted" sticker.
