Do You Know What Indian Summer Is?
If this term is unfamiliar to you, let me introduce you to Indian Summer. In Clarksville TN, sometime in the fall, you will see an Indian Summer. It is very pleasant weather and usually occurs after there has been a cold snap. The temperatures warm back up and it seems like summer has come back to replace the typical fall weather. I find this to be one of the nicest times of the year.
Check out what the experts at the Farmers Almanac say about Indian Summers and get the official word.
It occurs in the Mid- Atlantic States when around 7 straight days of temperatures at 70 degrees or warmer set in. It occurs anytime from mid-October to early November. Ours came about a week and a half ago and now it seems hot here. We have had several record breaking temperature days in this stretch.
Have you had an Indian Summer? These temperatures are usually very dry like ours have been and we are needing rain in a big way. There can be several stretches that can be called Indian Summer.
The name Indian Summer could have several origins. Some people say the name started from Early American settlers. The campfire's smoke created a change in the sky that looked hazy.
Another possibility was that Native Americans (Indians) sensed the weather was changing and started preparing for winter bringing the last of the harvest to store up for cold weather.
Indian Summers happen in temperate European countries, too. It's an enjoyable time of the year and in some places that last hoorah before the snow and cold winds set in. Fall is a beautiful time of the year.
