I was able to escape to one of my favorite places for a nice walk: The Rockefeller Preserve in Sleepy Hollow. Much to my delight, the Geese had been done what geese do in the spring - produce goslings. I was able to spy a mated pair waddling out into Swan Lake with what I imagined was one of the their first times out with their "young family." Making sure all four were in tow they ventured out into the middle of the lake enjoying the late afternoon sunshine. I watched until they were in the middle of the lake. Taking pictures was difficult because the goslings were so small, they looked like tiny corks bobbing on the top of the water and my camera does not have that great a zoom lens..but this is what I was able to capture:

Thanks Laura - and it took its time coming here!  They were sooooo tiny. I could hardly catch them with the camera.  They were bobbing up and down like corks although they weren't struggling - they seemed to be paddling away - keeping up with their parents! Since my zoom is terrible so cropping the picture with the highest resolution  was the only way to really see the goslings.  They were cute as heck.....

Debbie  - according to two other sources, you've got a good chance of seeing some in the near future.  THey were VERY TINY as you can see. It was hard to keep the goslings in the view finder, they were like little dots.  I had to blow up the image where they are just in the water to see them.

Definitely Rosario!  And none too soon!  It was starting to feel like perpetual winter! With fuel costs being what they are I just wanted  to shut everything OFF!  I rarely keep full heat on past the beginning of April, but I was kind of forced to this year.

One of the things I always loved growing up was baby geese in the spring.  We had a good sized pond on our property and always had geese - some domestic and some wild.  I miss that - thanks for the photos.

Some day, I'll have a pond again, and some geese.  Or maybe ducks - geese can be mean!  LOL

Hi Karen...I was walking with Jade and Tundra. Tundra was looking at all the geese and ducks and was licking her chops!  The gees HISSED at her - and with good reason.  Tundra is just 1 year old.  She is too young to know better.  The older (almost 4-year-old) Jade knows better than to tangle with something so large.   Geese KNOW how to protect themselves.  But Geese can be nasty. There were some nice Mallards  and Buffleheads for a while -  but no ducklings yet.

Adorable! We have a lot of geese here in Liberty Lake. I enjoy hearing them honk as they pass by overhead!
