It's election day and all kinds of emails are flying into my inbox. Facebook is filled with a kind of agreed upon acceptance of what will be, will be. Of course there are those that will challenge the results, but that's another story for another day.
One of the emails I just received looked authentic. And the funny thing is it was from a former company I was employed some 30 years ago! A company that is the polar opposite of my beliefs today. Just goes to show you how opinions can change and views differ on so many levels, like this election.
Opening the email and reading the first line, I knew it was a fake. First, Koch Industries was founded by Fred Koch, David and Charles' father. I know because I used to work there in the early 80's. The email clearly is erroneous and so is the senders' email address.
Hi, My name is David Hamilton Koch, a philanthropist and the founder of Koch Industries, one of the largest private foundations in the world. I believe strongly in ‘giving while living I had one idea that never changed in my mind, that you should use your wealth to help people and I have decided to secretly give USD$2,000,000.00 Million Dollars to randomly selected individuals worldwide. On receipt of this email, you should count yourself as the lucky individual. Your email address was chosen online while searching at random. Kindly get back to me at your earliest convenience, so that I will know your email address is valid. |
Of course this is a coincidence as the sender could not know I used to work there. But it just goes to show you that no matter what or who you believe in following, always do your own research.
Always be mindful of the source of the information. Research the source until you have satisified your curiosity and exhausted your efforts.
This election year, I researched candidates for two solid evenings to make sure I voted with full confidence of understanding each candidates' position.
I watched PBS specials on different candidates on YouTube to get a clear idea of what each candidate was about so I felt informed about their record.
Our Arizona election this year is one of the most volatile in recent history.
Our Corporation Commission that regulates publicly held utilities has a heated list of candidates up for election. Solar is at the forefront!
Arizona was #1 per capita for solar in the US until the utility companies added monthly fees to homes with solar panels. Solar installations came to a halt in one utility company's territory due to the added charge. That company is not publicly traded and not under ACC scrutiny. But the company that is under ACC's regulation still passed a small monthly fee to solar customers and are seeking more monthly fees to "support the grid."
Issues involving our Sheriff have made national headlines and that spot is up for election this year. The current Sheriff's legal bills have reached $120 million so you can imagine voter sentiment on this position.
Our own Senator McCain has been in the national news both good and bad for supporting and then unsupporting a presidential candidate.
Arizona's Supreme Court positions are up for election.
The County Recorder scandal involving not enough polling spots in the last election is up for vote.
All of this plus the Presidential selection has made our television commercials buzz with continued ads that I'm sure everyone is tired of seeing.
Don't rely on opinions or stories without having a clear conscience and do your own research.
