I'm going to break with my own rule of not approaching politics with blog posts. And to a certain degree this post isn't really about politics either.
If you read my Facebook post this morning, you've already seen this (consider it a reblog of my own stuff basically). But there's a lot of happiness and a lot of heartache out there today and I felt sharing this was more important than posting a market report that can wait another day.

Thoughts the morning after the election:
Who we are is not defined by who sits in the White House.
Who we are was defined long before. We're individuals with unique viewpoints based upon our upbringing, our experiences and the choices we made to form our belief system that guides our daily actions. Whether that core belief system is framed by our faith and trust in God is each individual's decision.
The election was contentious, divisive and pretty much every negative adjective in Websters, yet it still doesn't define who we are as individuals.
This election wasn't some referendum that okayed racism, hate, sexism and pretty much any other -ism you want to choose. That existed long before the election and hate to say it, but will exist long after I've finished walking this earth. The roots are deep and won't be changed by merely electing a different gender to the White House.
At its core this election was a rejection of the status quo.
It was also a statement about apathy and failure to vote. The difference easily beyond the sum of all those who say "my vote doesn't matter". Those who didn't participate could have easily altered the outcome.
We can not nor should we ever look to our political leaders to be our saviors. We are the ones that make the differences day by day with the choice to act or not act, to help or not help.
We can choose to reunite, or be forever divided.
It's time to stop letting the "experts" decide for us how to think and how to act.
That choice is ours, always has been and always should be.
Appreciate the good and don't let FEAR of the unknown consume your present. Life is short, enjoy what you have.
Our dogs and cats don't care who is in the White House. A good meal, a safe place to sleep, someone to pet them and they're pretty happy.
Climbing down off my soapbox.
