Adam Helmer was born in German Flatts, New York back in 1754 to George and Maria. By 1774 his area he lived in widely supported British control. Then the Declaration of rights was issued by the Continental Congress and things began to change.
Word came to Adam about the Battle of Lexington and Concord, that battle brought Adam onto the side of the militia. By 1776 then Lieutenant Adam Helmer was assigned to ranger duty. In 1778 Adam and eight other scouts under his command were sent to the Unadilla River to spy on the British led by Joseph Brant. He married Anna and sired ten that’s right 10 children. Apparently, the homecomings was a time to rejoice and renew the marriage. Anyway, he died in 1830 in the town of Brutus, New York.
So, while siring 10 children is not a record can you tell me what he did back in 1778 during that scouting expedition that will forever be written down in history for? Well during his scouting expedition his party was discovered by the British troops. He managed to escape, running to the north-east through the hills to notify the families along his route. He arrived at Fort Dayton where he told his tale of the impending attack to Colonel Peter Bellinger. His straight-line route would have been 30 miles but because of the hills and warning to the people along the route it was considerably longer. Anyway, he arrived at the fort exhausted and slept for 36 hours straight.
His feat was documented and a movie made about it. Maybe if your old enough you’ve heard of him in the movie made about him. The name of the movie “Drums Along the Mohawk”.
How can I relate this to real estate, why it’s simple Adam knew he had a job to do for the cause just like we do when we are hired by either the seller of buyer of a home? He stayed focused and got the job done.
