Sundays when I am not out with clients are days I try to spend with my husband. We both work selling Denver real estate and enjoy taking time to explore the area when we can.

Yesterday was a bright sunny spring day, so I begged to go take a few pictures to replace some sadly done old shots on my website.  Among the places we visited was the Littleton train station for the RTD Light Rail.

This lovely station actually was a real rail station, or should I say is and still is!  Only these days the trains that stop are the commuter trains taking people to and from Denver.  The heavy rail trains go through, mostly carrying coal, but they don't stop.

We poked around, waiting a few trains come and go. The traffic was light on Sunday morning, but still the train service was being used.

When we left I noticed the Arapahoe Community College building was directly across the street from the Littleton Station.  It was then the realization hit us, the Light Rail is very convenient for students to take to school.  It services the University of Denver, Arapahoe Communtiy College and the schools at the Downtown Denver Auraria campus!

The realization of this grew a blog post.  Visit it if you wish, at Denver Dwellings.

I love the thought that old things are new again. Trains are coming back. So is the desire to live downtown. Maybe soon we will see values return along with common sense, budgeting and enjoying what you have.

Dream on...

Trains in the US are so under utilized.  My daughter lives in the UK and they don't have a car yet they get everywhere they need to go with public transportation include the rail.  The truckers are sceaming about the price of fuel driving up and down I-95 on the east coast and yet there goes the train along the same route without any freight and few passengers.

Hi Kristal...I love the mural.  The colors are great and so are the buildings.  I also like the looks of your rail station.   The two of you must have had a nice outing.

Thanks for sharing.

Kathleen

P.S.  Congratulations on the feature!

TOD should be the hottest designation for buying a home if you ask me; love the look of that train station!

Just had a gal call me asking questions about what she needed to do to qualify to buy a home in one specific community as a first time home buyer; I directed her to the bank that handles those. At least she is trying to figure things out. Yes we can dream...............  glad you got to spend some quality time with your camera, er, hubby :-)

Nice photos. I love going out and taking photos to remember 'where' we live. You don't see it quite the same way in your day to day hustle it seems.

Kristal - I love trains; there was a time here in Dutchess County when you could go almost anywhere on trains, now all that remains are abandon tracks.  Some of these old track beds have now been converted to rail trails for people to enjoy.

I too hope  values return soon.

With gas approching 5.00 per gallon the train will become more popular.

We have had 2 bright, sunny days so far in Portland this year! Because of gas prices, our light rail is filling up. It has been operating under capacity for years.

YEAH ... kk and her wonderful photos and stories are back!!!!

Columbus' mayor is pushing for a trolley to go 3 miles from downtown to OSU. A funny political cartoon in the local paper showed him dressed as Mr Rogers holding his trolley.

Kristal, that's a great train station. I love all the train history here in the west and it is great to see that form of trasportation being revised. I'm on my way to Denver to surprise my Mother for Mother's day this weekend.  She tried to get me to come in to surprise my sister for her birthday which wasn't even that special of a birthday and that gave me the idea.  My sister just moved to Elizabeth and is still trying to sell the Broomfield house so I'm hoping your market improves also.

That's a great little train station.  We have a few like that in Westchester.  Cute, small, and they service village commuters.  Scarsdale, Hartsdale, Tuckahoe come to mind. They didn't become large and impersonal.  These days they all have Starbucks - where would NY be without a Starbucks within 10 ft?

Leanne ~ Thanks about the photos. As you know blogging is just my cheesey way to show off a favorite pic or two!

Cindy Jones ~ You are so right about us not doing train transportation like they do in Europe.  I love the network they have over seas.  In fact I once made very good use of it!  I wish we had a better system here.  I'm sure one day we will.

Steve ~ You are welcome, glad you liked the pictures too!

Kathleen ~ The actually mural is terrific.  I couldn't begin to capture all of it.  Thanks for the congrats!

Carole
~ Yes TOD's shall rule soon.  Yes, the hubby is used to the camera.  At least he doesn't groan when he sees it. :)

Susan
~ Leaving the hustle behind is the only way to relax.  I love doing it with a camera.  It makes me stop and look for the beauty all around.

Linda ~ Train on the brain for sure.  The experience at Station Square was wonderful.  I'm so glad I took the time to go.  Thanks!

Barbara ~ Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

Russ ~ Well thank you!

Joan ~ Agreed!  We do enjoy our Sunday exploration.

Jennifer ~ I love the RAils to Trails concept too.  What better to do with them, after all the railroad was given them at one time. Giving back is the right thing to do.

Terry ~ LOL, I also believe WALKING will become more popular!

Wayne  ~ No wonder your area is so Green! It's always getting watered!  The light rail here has been a big hit.

Moni ~ You betcha! I'll be an NAR.  I'm hoping to get to see you and your hubby.  We are doing the Wednesday night happy hour somewhere.  I hope they pull the location together soon!

Jay ~ I bet the subway riders are up!  Gas is bringing people to their senses!

Lola ~ Thanks!  Who is Teresa Boardman? :)

Bob & Carolin ~ Thanks! I could make it a full time job.  :)

Patricia ~ Colorado does blue sky as you well know!  Thanks for stopping by Patricia.

Elaine ~ I hope your trolley goes thru!  The public  was against the light rail when it first started.  Now that it's been a success they are building 119 more miles of it!  Yippee!  Thanks for your compliments, you are sweet!

Marchel
~ Sorry to her your sister is having a hard time selling her home.  Broomfield is a very good area, she should be able to sell.  At least your sister moved closer to you.  Isn't Elizabeth about 1/2 way to Texas?  :)

Ruthmarie ~ LOL we do need our Starbucks.  I was just lamenting how a certain area I go to lacked one.  It's only a couple miles from the ones I go too.  THat is really bad!

Randy ~ Sometimes we have to make another day our Sunday.  I know I feel jipped when I don't get a day off.

Indeed.  We have some wonderful old train stations that now serve the commuter rails in MD and Northern Virginia.  Homes in proximity to the rail lines are premium.

Beautiful photos.

Great mural and pictures.  I have gained a greater appreciation of what pictures on the internet can do to show off an area.  Gas prices will mean and mean people using the trains.  Perhaps this will all have an impact for the positive on the environment.

Hi Kristal - nice to see your post, and I, too, love doing just what you do on Sundays when I have no appointments.

I love the thought of taking a train to school - how cool is that?!  A relaxing ride to and from, no fighting traffic, no gas costs worries - love it!   Love that mural pic, too.

@ T Boardman Thank you, coming from you that is quite a compliment!  Are you feeling ok? :)

Lenn ~ Thanks Lenn,  I must say you folks back East had a tad of a head start on the Train Station thing!  We need another 100 years to catch up!

Miriam ~ It is nice to be able to check out the scenery in a far away place from the comform of our easy chair!  Yes, trains and public transportation maybe getting a new breath of live.

Mitchell ~ LOL, our subterrainian train was my best memory of NYC. THanks again for being such a wonderful host!

Ann ~ It's nice to see you and other friends in the rain.  Yes, I agree that taking a train to school would be nice.  Unfortunately for me, trains had not been invented when I went to school. :)

Dena ~ Yes, I do landlady!  Someday we may have a commuter train going to your neck of the woods.  Or should I say prarie?  :)

Hi Kristal, you in my humble opinion are one, if not the best writers, bloggers, authors...whatever term you want to use on the rain.  I admire your work, your skills, you make it all look so easy and so beautiful.  You also know how to write something that is easy to follow in learning new things on AR, you must have been a teacher in your past life :).  The blog you wrote on how to put pictures on your blog is the best and easiest ones I've come across.  I have sent many people to it, rather than try to tell them myself.  So I just wanted to drop by and say hi, thanks for being an inspiration to me, and all your helpful tips.angel saying thank you  Liz

Kristal, after I posted this comment I read the top 12 women bloggers, so glad to see there are lots of folks who agrees with me!  Missy I've gotten to know more, we have talked about teams, since I've had one for almost 20 years now.  She is an awesome lady also.  By the way do you by any chance know Karen Bernardi?  She is an agent out of Bolder CO, and a good friend of mine.  We been on a couple of scuba diving trips and also have the same real estate coach, Mike Ferry.  Liz

Liz (part II)  Yes I know Karen Bernardi in Boulder.  She is a mega-producer in her neck of the woods.  It's nice to know you enjoy scuba diving.  I once loved diving too.

Katie ~ LIttleton has a great station.  The only other one I know is Union Station.  Maybe someday we will have others. Thanks for stoping by!
