I had the opportunity, last night, to attend one of the Envision Loudoun meetings . If you have not heard about this effort, these meetings are being held around Loudoun County in November and December to get public input about the Loudoun County Comprehensive Plan.
If you are a Loudoun County resident, or even if you work there, like I do, this is a great opportunity to have your priorities heard.
When you arrive, they will ask you to use a sticker to identify where you live and where you work on the map. This is an effort to ensure that they are getting representation at these meetings from all segments of the county.
Next, you will select a 'round table' where you will sit for the meeting and the presentation on the process.
After the presentations, each attendee will have a couple of minutes to think about areas and issues of conccern that the county that should consider in the plan. This is where you have a chance to make your priorities heard. We then went around the table, multiple times. Each time, each participant added an item to the list. These lists will be carefully reviewed and considered as the Comprehensive Plan was developed. At the end of the meeting, each round table provided a list of their concerns and priorities.
The concerns and priorities can be anything. Ours varied from traffic (of course!) to speed bumps, to high speed Internet for rural areas to school bus driver benefits and redevelopment of older areas (to mention a few). It can truly be anything. It is worth taking an hour and half of your time to have a say in the development of your county.
The website, envision-loudoun.org, provides information about the process, as well as specifics about the upcoming meetings. These meetings are being held all over the county so as to maximize involvement.
Even if you have never done anything like this before, the process is designed to be an easy and painless way to have your voice heard.
Get out there and let Loudoun County know about your priorities!
