As I sat on the park bench with my wife and watched our kids play at the park in our subdivision this evening, a neighbor came over grabbed me so I could do some "manly man's work" for her.
She needed me and another neighbor she recruited to lift the top section of her entertainment furniture unit off and put it in the garage. My god, that thing was heavy!
When I asked her what she was doing, she proceeded to tell me the perfect, text-book story, considering our currently slow economy.
She was trying to surprise her husband before he got home from work with a brand new flat screen TV.Her family had received their "economic stimulus rebate check" from the IRS. A whopping $2,000! She put half away in savings and she spent half on a new flat screen TV from Walmart. I had to laugh, as the story was so "perfect". I could just imagine her being interviewed by the local news media on the way out of Walmart with a big smile on her face, with the anchor wrapping up the segment, saying: "there you have it! the economic stimulus plan appears to be working!"
With George Bush buying my neighbors brand new flat screen TVs, perhaps the economic stimulus program will actually boost consumer spending. If this does occur, then the news about the economy would be good. If good news hits the journalistic airwaves...perhaps consumers will buy more homes with increased confidence! This of course would be good news for all Realtors!
This is how it's all supposed to work, right?
Let's hope Walmart has enough flat screen TVs in stock to pull us all through this mess and stimulate the economy and consumer confidence to the point that the housing market stabilizes in challenged areas!
Of course, I'm having a little fun with this topic. Nobody really knows what will happen. Could it all be just that simple? Flat screen TVs from Walmart?
If this plan works out the least bit favorably for our economy, then the end result will ultimately be good news for Realtors!
