Thankful for Tranquility

A journey along Utah’s Highway 12 provides a visitor with an opportunity to visit three National Parks, and three Utah State Parks.

In 2009 I crawled into my car, headed east on Highway 50 out of Sacramento to Utah.  I tapped into Highway 12 at its southern tip in Utah.  The beauty of Zion, Bryce and Capital Reef National Parks was awe inspiring.  Ditto, for the Anasazi, Kodachrome and Petrified Forest State Parks!

At Kodachrome I encountered this massive lone Hoodoo standing majestically as a testament to the power which placed it there.

For those unaware, to Native American Indians, a Hoodoo is a stone formation – and is a dead men standing.  For another example of Hoodoos, I have written another blog with photo taken at Bryce which pictures a canyon populated with them.  It can be accessed via: “Who Knew it was about Hoodoos”

This month Debbie Reynolds (the Real Debbie Reynoldsis hosting a 10 Day Thanksgiving Post Challenge.  This is Day 2.

I am THANKFUL for the tranquility in my life, and quiet spirituality.  I am not a person who is religious in the dogmatic sense; but I have a deep sense that each of us is part of everything else!

Barbara Todaro - Before my trip to Utah's Highway 12, I had no idea what they were.  I had my first encounter with them at dawn on the first day!

What a beautiful story that I didn't know about previously. It is absolutely tranquil! And your photograph extraordinary. I love to hear the history behind a sculpture and this one is pretty powerful and commands respect!

Myrl, You have described how I feel however you did it so eloquently.

"I am not a person who is religious in the dogmatic sense; but I have a deep sense that each of us is part of everything else!"

I love to keep my inner peace and joy.  Working in real estate often messes with that

Hey Myrl: Tessa is reminding me right now that I need to pause and enjoy a spiritual moment with her, to share her catnip-inspired dreams and marvel in the simplicity of Jackson's art medium, look mom, I made this with a Q-tip.

How did you get the sun to reflect that god-like aura behind the hoodoo? Or was that a photo enhancement program?

Thanks ALL for the comments.  They are appreciated!

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - The free on-line photo editor, iPiccy, has an effect called "lights" that allow for making the aura.  The irony is that morning there was a natural aura, but I was in a different position.  Once I got moved so the sun was directly behind the hoodoo, the natural aura had disappeared!

All - I also want to mention that this formation is known as "Chimney Rock."  It is 160 feet tall!
