For some reason, the election notwithstanding, I have gotten away from my weekly visits to post my Thankful Thursdays. Life has a way of getting in the way of living, doesn't it?
My friend Jeff Belonger, who used to be very active here on Active Rain, now a has great Philly blog called MyPhillyAlive.com. He sends me a note every now and then on Facebook to share some of his posts because he knows I grew up in Philadelphia and that both of my sons now live there, one in Queen Village and one attending Temple University.
Today's post was about the Macy's light show. It brought back so many memories of my mom. Back then it was called John Wanamakers. My mom, every Christmas, would take us to Lit Brothers at 8th and Market to see the Enchanted village. From there we would go to Strawbridges and on the 4th floor, in the girl's department, there was a ladies room with an old fashioned soda machine that would drop a cup, crushed ice and really great coke! From there, we would go to Wanakers to watch their light show. Great memories. My mom always worked full time but she always made time for us and provided the most happy memories of Christmas with not much money but plenty of love.
Next week marks 3 years that she's gone, and while it has gotten easier, the memories are still there and the love will never fade.
Lit Brothers, Strawbridge and Clothier and John Wanaker's are no more. Macy is though and they still have the light show. Go to Jeff's website and learn all about it.
Carpe Diem and thank you Jeff for a nice stroll down memory lane.
