2014 Carlsbad Fires - Not to be Forgotten

Carlsbad fires 2014

Sometimes memories are not pleasant, as is the case of the most recent Carlsbad fires that took erupted May 14, 2014. There are still remmants of the fires but homes have been rebuilt, and vegetation has recovered in many areas, but the memories linger.

The citizens of Carlsbad have much to be thankful for with our first responders, fire fighters, and others who helped during this difficult time. The damages could have been far worse had it not been for these heroes.

The same might be said of other areas in San Diego affected by the firestorm that took place May 2014 with  9 fires burning at one time on the 14th.

I can't believe it has been almost 2 years since the Carlsbad fires. Such a huge loss of homes and fire fighters. We won't forget.

Wildfires are terrible.  We get our share in Central Oregon.  Many blessings to those who lost lives and possessions.

Wildfires are proof that there is no such place as a worry-free paradise.  I think we are as close as it gets, though --- amazes me the damage these fires can do and how long their scars stick around.

The Carlsbad fires in California were flat out nasty. Makes us appreciate our firefighters.

Good luck and success.

Some things get seared into our being, don't they Jeff? Wildfires certainly are one of them--so frightening.

That guy in your bottom photo probably came home, wondering why in the hell nobody has pulled in his recyling and trash cans and, oh, wait, crap, there is smoke all around my home and some guy in the street is taking a photo. Or not.

Hi Jeff Dowler ,  I remember seeing it all over the News. Even the one's far away, look like they are just over the hill. I remember a few in Saddleback Valley.

Hello Jeff.  Our rains have been record breaking thus far for the season.  One finds very few complaints and I believe the reason being the fires of only 2 summers ago.  Fires when up close and personal leave an image long remembered.  Mark

Jeff, we've been in drought here for a while and had to deal with a few minor wildfires compared to yours. However, it was a little unsettling to experience the haze and smell of smoke in the air.

Jan Sohlman  - it was not nearly as bad as it could have been. Horrible nonetheless

Lynnea Miller  - there are no words to describe what people go through when these happen. We are so blessed for the people who risk their live to help

Hi John Meussner  - yep despite our paradise it can quickly be destroyed by fires. It's pretty shocking how quickly they can spread and the damage they cause. There are still areas scarred by the San Diego fires back in 2007.

So true Lou Ludwig  They did an amazing job and it was a miracle more homes were not damaged or destroyed.

Lottie Kendall  indeed. Scary how quickly they can move and how far-reaching the damage can be.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents  - indeed. That photo was taken by a friend of ours in his neighborhood.

Larry Johnston  - I was actually out of town and left the morning they started. It was awful being away from home.

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint - They are a fact of life in many areas and one never forgets!

Nick T Pappas  - thankfully they have not been as bad as they could have been but scary nevertheless, and you just don't know if they will spread or not. One feels helpless!
