Grateful Post Day 7 - Our Pup Miss Duchess..
Debbie Reynolds created a 10 day ActiveRain challenge concerning writing posts about what we are Grateful/Thankful for in our lives. This is my first post in this challenge and I have many things to be extremely grateful for in my life. My posts will not be in any type of order. Some posts will be much longer than others.
I am very grateful and happy that our Pup Miss Duchess all of sudden showed up in our lives. She is a true blessing and such a lovable small dog. I will give a short version of how we came to have her as part of our family.
Early March 2015 my youngest step-son Alex was driving along a busy street in Pearland TX as he was living in a home owned by his roommate's parents in Pearland. It was a cold, rainy and dreary night but somehow Alex spotted a very tiny dog running and was able to pull over. He called to the dog and she came running. Alex has always been a dog whisperer.
At first Alex and his Dad ( he is our friend) tried to find a shelter to take her to with no success as all were full. Dropping any dog off under these conditions meant quick euthanasia. Yolanda got to see her and immediately fell in love with her. She was this tiny, under fed, abused little pup with no collar, chip, nothing at all. Someone cut her loose on very nasty night and that someone was a male. She would never have survived one night on the loose. It was a blessing for sure that she was found and ended up with us.
During the day of the first night at our home she was at the Vets getting shots and examined. She had a collar and a few days later a chip right after she arrived at our home! Yolanda held her at the Vets examination room and instantly bonded with her. When I got home that evening Duchess paid little attention to me. I so wanted to pet her and hold her but no go. I told Yolanda I was under impressed as I had a bad day with PC and software issues. Yolanda told me to give her a chance as she had so many changes happen in her life in a very short period of time and many new people to get to know. I was being stupid and totally unfair which I realized quickly after a night sleep.
The first weekend in our home found Miss Duchess sitting in my lap just about everywhere I went in the home as well as when I was sitting in front of my Mac. We had a great time together taking her outside and on walks we now call puppy walks. Duchess followed me everywhere including into the bathroom. I was easily hooked and bonded very quickly to this tiny little dog.
Duchess is a part of our family and everyone other than one person to remain nameless loves her dearly. She is such a great companion for my father-in-law who lives with us. I think last December when he was told he had to have dialysis and spent Christmas Eve in the hospital would have been the end of his life if not for this little dog. She provides him with company during the day when no one else is home and a purpose. Small dog or not she is very protective over Grandpa as well as Yolanda and me!
She makes all of us happy as she is truly a family dog who loves to hang out with us. She makes Yolanda and I laugh every day and she shows us so much love. In addition, she is a very smart little dog who learns pretty quickly. When we got her she was already housebroken.
I am so grateful and thankful another family did not appreciate how special a dog she is and we ended up being her family. She was put into our lives for a purpose. We all love her.
