Anita Fuller at Arch St house Searcy AR

Anita Uncle Jack Harrison

I seem to remember an old country song about a son's standing in the shadows of a very famous man. (Hank Williams, Jr.)  Here we go again!  These two pictures were taken at the same location in Searcy AR at a charming house on West Arch Street that we put on this blog a few days ago.

The house is once again offered for sale and the rock work is so fascinating.  Anita Hart Fuller, former Searcy resident, recognized it from an old picture of her Uncle Jack Harrison who was a famous man around Searcy during his life.  We did  a blog about his being the first person to land a plane in Searcy.  Anita wanted to verify the location and we visited and confirmed that it was the same house.  Whether her Uncle Jack was a resident or just visiting is still not verified.  We posed Anita in the same spot, showing the same volcanic rock and the same entry tile, and even the same position.

Compare the two.  They even look similar!  Now go read those other two blogs and enjoy the memory of a man who was given the key to the city of Searcy AR!  Here's what Anita wrote about him.

Well, he wasn't famous in the sense of everyone knowing who he was, but he WAS the first man to land an airplane in Searcy!!!  The then mayor, B.L. Oliver was there to greet him and the Searcy High School band.  That would have been in the early 40s, before the war.  He was given a key to the city of Searcy, and later...at her 100th birthday celebration, Mother was also given a key to the city.  I think that might be unusual:  2 members of the same family having "keys"....

Barbara: Good job, and notice (even though we didn't try for this)....that the shadow of the person taking the picture (of me.....YOU) is in the picture.
Yes, my uncle, Capt. James (Jack) Harrison lived in that house for some years. I visited there many times, but I was just a little girl, so have no memories.
His name is listed on that memorial to soldiers who gave their lives during the wars, at the court house.....

The court house says the house was built in 1935.  Do you think he built it?

No, I don't think so. In a small way, I'm thinking they were renting.
