Some of you were aware that Diane and I took a few days off and we went to Las Vegas, NV. I have written a few posts about it, but did not write about our visit to the MOB Museum. We spent quite a few hours there, because it was interesting to me and I had an indirect connection to some of the players.

Twenty plus years ago, when I relocated to Los Angeles I started out at the Fred Sands Hollywood Hills Real Estate office on Sunset Blvd. I was quite excited to be in West Hollywood selling Real Estate and visiting some of the landmark buildings as well as previewing homes of some of the well-known as well as lesser known players in the entertainment industry.

My manager was Robby Sedway (he passed away a few years ago, sadly from cancer) his father was Moe Sedway, the accountant to Bugsy Siegel, the founding father of Las Vegas, NV. I recall sitting in his office and there was a beat-up leather briefcase on the ledge of his window, behind his desk.

On the wall, there was a picture of the Sands Hotel and Warren Beatty standing in front of it. (In case you are not familiar with it, he played in the movie Bugsy) Anyway you get the idea. Robby had quite a few stories about growing up as Moe Sedway’s son, but he seldom talked about it.

I recall once he said he was in a Limo and his father would have guys in Umpire Uniforms come into the back of the Limo and they would get “envelopes”, obvious to me Baseball, Football and Basketball umpires have similar uniforms. So, sports betting was a big business for the mob. Anyway, I am digressing.

Now with that said what are the odds that we happened to go to the Mob Museum and these was this exhibit. (Please check out the pictures) since than there have been two other exhibits, because they rotate the Museum’s exhibits. Clearly Robby was saying hello to me and Diane.

Robby was a no nonsense Real Estate Broker, he asked me when I interviewed with him “are you here to work or just want to hang your real estate license? If the latter, then I do not have a desk for you” He started me on my land career. He asked me what my expertise is coming from Boston, MA, I hemmed and hawed and he said effective immediately you are “The Land Man” no go and learn it.  Twenty years later…Thank you Robby I AM THE LAND MAN…

Now if you visit Las Vegas, NV and do not want to spend all your time Gambling and would love to learn the history of Las Vegas, please visit the Mob Museum. There is a great deal of information there just ask the docents.

Hi Endre - I'll definitely check out that museum if I ever go to Las Vegas again (doubtful) - I'd find some of my family history there. My great uncle Morris Kleinman ran the Ohio mob (except for Toledo), and was one of the two original owners of the Desert Inn, along with his "business" partner Moe Dalitz. My family would never talk about him.

Endre Barath, Jr. Ron's dad loved Vegas.  He always won, because he knew how to quit while he was ahead.  A lot of the family trips were to Las Vegas.  He would talk to the lifeguard at the pool and tell him to watch Ron and his sister while he played craps with his Mom.  After he retired, he would often get up early drive to LAX and get on a Delta flight to LV and be back by 3PM...

We have worked with 3 clients there and spoke at condohotel conference, and went out to interview for a project there...A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel  very interesting about Ron's Dad sounds a bit like Diane's Dad...,  the extent of my gambling consists of Quarter Slot Machines..... my take is, if you are in Vegas it does not matter what you do, good food, resorts or what ever there is a Dollar amount that you will be spending per hour and it comes out to the same...either you gamble and lose a few hundred dollars or go to a great restaurant for a few hours and leave a few hundred dollars.... What a cool post Endre Barath, Jr.

I love reading about mobsters. I have heard about the museum in Vegas and would love to check it out. Cheers to Bennie (don't call me Bugsy) Siegel.

Over the years I have heard some really wild stories about the Chicago mob and the Vegas skim that kept them in cash for so long.

I had a friend who worked for the Chicago Tribune. He took this photo out of the trash as it was being tossed. This photo is of Al Capone during his Income Tax evasion trial that would be his undoing in 1931. This was taken as Al was walking to the Federal court in Chicago.

I like these kind of museums. There was an mob-FBi display at the Newseum in Washington DC.
