Can you be THANKFUL for a loss?

By
Real Estate Agent with Joy Daniels Real Estate Group, Ltd.

Friday was the last day for an employee I have had in my life for 10 years. She worked for me as my assistant when I was working at another brokerage. We worked out of my home, my living room was her office.  She put up with me greeting her in my pajama's from time to time, my cats, listening to me shower or iron plus I home-schooled my son and my mother-in-law lived with us!  We worked from my home for almost 4 years before my husand and I started our own brokerage and we finally found ourselves working from a "real" office.  When we moved, KR became the face of our company, answering phones and greeting our guests, clients, employees and agents plus working as my assistant.  After a year she moved out of those roles and became our “Closing Department.”

I know that people need to grow in their lives and are always looking for a better life for themselves.  That is a such a big driver for ALL of us!  KR found a new opportunity and while it was a huge disappointment to lose someone I have grown to deeply love, I do understand and wish her the best in her new endeavors as she continues to strive for the things that matter to her.

KR was such a big part of our company and its growth. Her importance and sweet spirit in my life and the lives of others was something I will miss. (I am crying as I write this post.) What I have come to recognize is that I am grateful for all she has been to me, helping me achieve my goals and being a loyal employee for so many years.

I was blessed to have known her in my life and for that I am Thankful. ♥

Joan Whitebook thank you for that good point, we are BOTH moving forward.

Debra Leisek & Lise Howe it is very bittersweet.  Thank you for your kind words.  It was an amazing 10 years for which I am thankful and as Sham Reddy states we need to be prepared for this in our business from time to time. . . but it still is painful.

Joy your post says it all very well, and losing someone who has been so supportive over the years has got to be hard. I hope your next employee will be able to fill the shoes of KR.

Hi Joy

What a touching tribute to KR and all that she brought to the company and to you personally, even though it was time for her to move on. You'll have wonderful memories and hopefully will find someone else to take her place.

Joy: And I am sure it was very hard for KR to make that decision. But sometimes we need to move on to follow our own visions for ourselves. It's like sending one's children out into the world. Support her decision and be happy for her, at the same time having that "empty nest" feeling.

Nick & Trudy Vandekar and Jeff Dowler  - we are blessed we had a back for each of our positions, so that back up has gaciously taken the position.  Thanks for your kind words!

Not easy for you to lose someone so valuable and appreciated, and I'm sure it's tough for KR to make a leap knowing how much she has been valued.  This kind of post is what makes your team so very special!

Joy, yes indeed we can be thankful and even blessed for a loss as you say. I have been very blessed w/ good people around me all my life. I always root for them to be the best they can be and take "real" opportunities if they present themselves. I always treat them the very best I can and if they can do better for themselves and their family, I encourage it. When I lose someone, it seems I too am equally blessed w/ some new and wonderful people around me as "YOU" will as well. And,, I believe the reason for that is my sincere wishes for them to be the best they can be. Hang in there, you will see...

Dear Joy,

Growth is normal for most people. Lucky, you were able to see the beginnings of it for your assistant. Hopefully, she will go on to amazing things & your paths will meet many more times over the years as you continue to love & support each other.

The title of your blog captured me. You are so grateful for what your former employee gave your company and that's the way to look at it!  The title also made me think of when I lost my job after 9/11.  It was rough as I loved the job so much however...b/c of that job loss I went into real estate which has given me so much more!
