Forever Thankful for My Extended Family.
There’s nothing like Thanksgiving to remind you that we all have much to be thankful for. Debbie Reynolds has asked us in her 10 Day Thanksgiving Challenge to share with everyone what they are thankful for.
When we moved to Delray Beach almost 30 years ago, I cried a little every day for two weeks. I missed my family, my friends, and Houston.
In 6 months all of that changed when we moved next door to the amazing couple who were gracious enough to make us a part of their family.
They greeted us with two drinks then left us to finish our unpacking. Along with that was the invitation for a longer visit when we needed a break.
From that moment on we became part of their family. Larry and I were between Tom and JoAnne and their children in age, so we went diving, fishing, shopping, dinner with any and all who were available.
We survived Hurricane Andrew together, were there for the birth of 2 of their 5 grandchildren, graduations, and confirmations; were the recipients and instigators of many practical jokes, and sadly the passing several years ago of Tom.
We moved back to Houston and returned 4 years later and bought the house next door to our former home.
I’m not sure if we ever would have moved back to Delray Beach had it not been for Tom and JoAnne’s family. For us, moving back to Florida for the third time was like moving back to be with family.
