I'm So Thankful There's a Winter Storm Coming...Day 5 of the Thanksgiving Post Challenge

By
Real Estate Agent with Cedaredge Land Company

You don't hear a lot of people getting excited when a winter storm is heading their way, but in Colorado we do a little happy dance. When your economy and winter sports activity rely upon a good snow pack, you get happy when you hear there's snow coming. Also our summer irrigation water is heavily dependent upon how much snow we get during the winter months.

cedaredge colorado informationGrand Mesa has over 300 lakes and reservoirs. Most of these are used to collect water to be used as a domestic water source and for irrigation water. If these lakes don't fill up, then we don't get the water we want and need for the orchards during the  spring and summer.

The Grand Mesa is also a destination for those that like to snowmobile, cross country and downhill ski. Last year we had the best snow in the state. People traveled from all over just to play in the snow on Grand Mesa.

I haven't heard how much we are going to get in Cedaredge. It doesn't matter as long as the snow gods dump a lot of it. I checked the radar tonight and that storm is heading from the south right at us. Yippee!

Let it snow!!!

And in response to all of you readers in other parts of the country...I will do my best to keep the snow here.

I've lived on Colorado's Western Slope for over 26 years. I love this area and all it has to offer, and I enjoy sharing what I know about my home. As a REALTOR®, I also love to share my expertise in this area as well. If you need any real estate information for Montrose County, or Delta County, Colorado...please give me a call.

Good morning Debbie.  I'm so glad you mentioned that you would do your best to keep the snow where you live.  I'm going to hold you to that..

Beautiful picture Debbie Laity , we got out first snow last night, less than an inch here but north towards the mountains they got buried. The ski areas sure will love the early start where last year we had almost no snow. But the year before the snow reached my roof. How about a happy medium mother nature?

Hi Debbie - It looks like that one is only going to deliver some showers here, but the mountains need it a lot more right now. Stay warm!

No snow in town yet, Debbie Reynolds .But we did get a ton of rain. Everything is still wet even though it didn't rain today. I mean we got A LOT of rain. I haven't heard any offical snow measurements on Grand Mesa yet. I've been asking the water guys, but they don't know yet.

Hi, Larry Johnston ...you know I grew up in the Midwest. Your snow and cold is much different than ours. Our snow melts off the roads right away when the sun comes out. That's due to our elevation and dry conditions. Also it can be 25 degrees in the Midwest and here and it will feel warmer here due to the drier weather and elevation. We are closer to the sun. The lack of humidity and elevation do make a big difference.
