Thankful for Living in this Era

In addition to living life in California, there is another component to the “time-space” realm I’m grateful for.  It is my being born in this era with so much advancement and technological change.

I was born late in life to my mother and father.  Before my dad’s birth there were no airplanes.  And, my mother was born before women were given the right to vote.

When I consider all changes to our world in just my lifetime, I am amazed!  I often wish I could bring mom and dad back from the otherside for a visit. I would love watching their faces while showing them our advancements since they passed - Dad in 1966 and Mom in 1975.  Terms like “internet” and “blogging” would certainly bring blank stares.  And, cell phones would certainly amaze!

This month Debbie Reynolds (the Real Debbie Reynolds) is hosting a 10 Day Thanksgiving Post Challenge.  This is Day 6.

Barbara Todaro - I imagine that quite often!  I'm wondering if the advent of Teleportation (Beam me up, Scotty), will come by using the "space-time" continuum, or by demolecularization, and reassembly!  Inquiring minds wish to know!

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat - This is so true. I often wonder what my mother and father who are no longer here would think of today's advancements. Of course we can always go back in time and talk about things like typewriters or phone booths to our little ones and get the same blank stare.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Much has changed during our lifetimes. My father was born in 1902 and died in 1967.

Myrl,

What a beautiful post, and I agree we do live in an amazing time.  My father was born in 1919, and my mother in 1929.  They witnessed the beginning of the computer age and were first adapters...My mother did have a smart phone.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel and Roy Kelley - My dad was born in 1898 and my mother in 1910.  Things are dramatically changed from then!

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - I drug out a typewriter that I had in the back of a closet and showed it to a young grandchild a few years ago!

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington - I remember someone saying it takes a lifetime for some to learn what their purpose is, and by then it's almost too late to do anything about it!

I think about what my parents thought about modern day miracles being born in 1913 and 1910 like when we went to the Moon. Nedical advances and the internet alone qualify as miracles to me in advancing my business and beating cancer.

Myrl, You are so correct about all these tecnology advancements we have seen in the last 40-50 years. My Mom and Dad both passed away in 1983 and they would be amazed if they could see what we are doing these days. Have a great remainder to your day.

Hi Myrl: My grandmother used to tell me about living in a time before there were airplanes, and how incredible it was to watch the first planes take to the air, and she was astonished we could land on the moon. I don't think she would have liked the internet. Does it seem to you that we have made vast advances over the last 10 or 20 years, though? Like everything hummed along and then all of a sudden, bingo, technology took a giant leap?

I remember going to the airport to watch the planes take off. That was in the late 50's and early 60's. Boy have things changed. Now you can't get close to the planes.
