Season of Gratitude, I'm Thankful To Be in Real Estate
WE are in the month, when many reflect on their good fortune and show appreciation for the blessings that have been bestowed on them so far. While I have many things for which I am grateful, one blessing that I currently enjoy is to be in the business of real estate.
I got into the business due to burn out from my previous career. The travel was getting to be too much and the quality of life created by being away so much was a danger to my health and happiness. Money cannot buy either health or happiness.
It is apparent that you fly too much when the attendants at the airport greet you on a first name basis and ask how long the trip will be that week. The straw that pushed me out was the hassle of travel after the events of Sept 11, 2001.
I worked as a consultant to many of those same businesses for 3 years but limited my travels to a 500 mile maximum of my home. At the same time, I took the real estate classes and got licensed and also brokered within the first 24 months in the business. I carried my own brokerage for 6 years but again the stress was just too much and I merged with a local brokerage and find this much more pleasurable.
I feel so much less stress as an agent as my work load is whatever I want to carry and if I have a down period I do not have to worry about anyone other than myself. No worries about other people in the company being affected by me or my fellow engineers by not generating product or business to keep a company running.
The added bonus of the job is being able to work with the clients especially the buyers as they attempt to realize their dreams of hoe ownership. This is a business that can be very rewarding and also has flexibility with being able to better manage our time to allow for personal interludes within a work day.
I will be very happy and grateful over the Thanksgiving weekend, but knowing I have a job I enjoy so much is the added benefit to me.
This is a post for the Thanksgiving 2016 Challenge
