The Do’s and Don’ts of Selling a Home Over the Holidays

If you’ve been considering selling your home, one of the most important decisions you have to make is when to put your property on the market. Although you might not realize it, the holiday season can be a great time to sell a home. While it takes a little more preparation and planning, selling your home during the holiday can be easy, quick and rewarding.

However, before you list your home this holiday season, it’s important that you learn the do’s and don’ts of holiday selling to make sure you handle the process correctly. Learn a few do’s and don’ts that will help you sell your Fleetwood real estate during the holidays and find out how an experienced realtor like me can help.

Do Make Yourself Available for Showings

One of the most important factors in selling a home is making sure that prospective buyers can tour your property. However, with the hectic nature of the holiday season, finding the time to make your home available for showings can be an uphill battle. If you want to make sure to sell your home this holiday season, you must open your home for tours, even if it is an inconvenience.

I suggest that you pick a few days a week that work for you, and then set those days aside for your realtor to show your home.

Don’t Overdo the Decorations

For many of us, there is a temptation to go a little overboard during the holiday season, including loading our homes with as many festive decorations as possible. While it may be tempting to dress your home in its holiday finest, it’s a good idea to scale back on the decorations when you’re trying to sell your home.

In my experience, no two home buyers have the same taste, which means you should be cautious when decorating your home prior to selling. Ideally, a home buyer will be able to imagine themselves in your property, and this can difficult with too many decorations.

Do Take Recent Pictures

Almost important as how your home looks, is your listing. A listing needs to immediately stand out to potential home buyers, and a good way to achieve this goal is to take pictures tailored to the selling season. You should make sure the pictures on your listing match the holiday season you’re trying to sell in. For example, if you put up your listing during the Christmas season, you don’t want your listing to feature pictures from Halloween.

Take new, fresh pictures of your home that speak to the holiday season and you’ll be more likely to attract home buyers.

Sell Your Fleetwood Real Estate Over the Holidays

As you can see, selling your home during the holiday season isn’t the ordeal that many people imagine it to be. While holiday buyers may be scarce, they are often more aggressive, providing you the perfect opportunity to sell your home.
