19th Century London
What is all the fuss about this time period? Well actually, it was a pretty affluent time in our world history. During this time, London was the world’s largest city and continued to grow tremendously for its time. In addition, London became a global influence in the areas of politics, trading, and finance. London was a very large port for immigrants at the time. While all of this was happening, the living conditions of the poor were horrible and the poverty level was high. The life of the poor was emphasized by the famous author Charles Dickens who wrote the novel Oliver Twist, a classic tale which followed the life of a poor orphan boy and exposed the terrible conditions of orphans in London during the mid-19th century.
