Why Be Thankful For Horses?

                               Happy Horsey Thanksgiving

Humans have had a relationship with horses for thousands of years in many various cultures.  Horses have shaped out culture from the very early days of history.  They provided us as a food source, used as transportation, used in battle and in sport.  Horses have helped shape our world.  In all honesty, we would not be where we are without the horse.

  • Horses have helped man expand the world and helped with many discoveries.  Just think how much longer it would have taken had it not been for the horse.
  • Had it not been for the horse, the Romans may not have created roads, which may have prevented eventually developing cars and trains.  Imagine how the world would be today if we did not have the current transportation we use.
  • Cavlary units used horses in battle to help our fight and win wars.  If it hadn't been for the horses, there may have been different outcomes.
  • The Pacific Ocean may never have been discovered by Lewis and Clark without the horses, not to mention that the West may still be Wild and unsettled.
  • Horses have given us some wonderful legends like King Arthur as well as mythological heroes such as Perseus.  Imagine not having a knight in shining armor ride up on his good looking horse to save the princess and not be able to ride off into the sunset.  Totally unromantic.
  • Without horses, there would be no lucky horseshoes to hang over doorways.
  • Imagine cowboys without horses.  How would they be able to round up all those cows without their trusty horse?
  • What would happen to those who suffer from disabilities if there were no horses?  They certainly would not be able to lead normal lives.

Each and everyone of us individually have our own reasons for being thankful for horses.  I personally am thankful for the horses in my life for the many lessons they have taught me.  I have learned leadership, serenity, living in the present moment, partnerships, finances, caring for another living creature, and so much more.  And I continue learning from them.

By the way, without horses, I would not have a career niche in real estate of horse properties and farms.

It's hard to believe how much horses have given us and continue to give.

Why are you thankful for horses?  Let me know in the comments below.

 Happy Thanksgiving!!

I couldn't agree more. Read my book "Ride Like Potato" on Amazon. Every horse in my ranch has been carried in my arms the day it was born.
