Mom passed away in 1975.  Yet, a little of her lives on at my home during the holidays!  That's when I pull out some of her favorite handwritten recipes.  I love cooking them for my family!  Tasting the delightful dishes and treats reminds me of my childhood and special times! Food is love!  And, through love we live on, even if it's through our recipes!

Yes, I'm grateful for my mother's recipes!

This month, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, Debbie Reynolds (the Real Debbie Reynoldsis hosting a 10 Day Thanksgiving Post Challenge.  This is Day 9.

Myrl,

I have a recipe that my father started translating for me, even though I could have done it myself...Except he quit in the middle, with this sentence, add the gosh darn (PG 13) vanilla, and that was it.  I laugh each time I see it.  A

There is nothing better than those old time recipes. My mom recently wrote all of hers over the last year and gave them in a book to my daughter. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Myrl Jeffcoat

I made dressing like my mother-in-law taught me and pie crust like my mom showed me. I also made her pecan pie but couldn't find the recipe card and had to do it by memory. It turned out good and I had better write it down so I won't forget next time. Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for sharing your blessings.

I love this story. It's truly a great story to share during the holidays because her memory comes alive and you can feel her through your hands, the smells in the kitchen, and the taste from those old fashioned delicious recipes!

I wish I had saved more of my grandmother's recipes. I'm still not sure I have her potato salad exactly the way she made it, but everyone likes it anyway.

I was thinking, wouldn't it be fun to frame some of those recipes in your kitchen or decoupage them and give them away as gifts to family members? There was something to be said for the stay at home mom who took pride in the kitchen. I often wonder how many little kids get home made meals today?

We were the lucky ones, weren't we?
